Principal's Corner

It is hard to believe that the 2020-2021 School year is coming to a close. This has been a year we will never forget. I can't tell you how proud I am of our students, staff and parents for their perseverance and resilience through the past nine months. This year had it's challenges but through it all we had an amazing year here at Pine Street Elementary. Our students made great growth academically and were able to make new friends and build positive classroom communities that helped them thrive throughout the year. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for these amazing students.

As our year draws to a close there are many traditional end of year activities that we are starting to plan. As with most things this year, many of these activities need to be modified in order to meet our safety procedures and guidelines. The two main events we are planning for are field day and our awards presentations.

Field Day will take place on Thursday, June 3rd. Mr. Kingshott has a fun, modified Field Day planned. We will be having a school wide Kick Ball tournament as well as some relay races and other classroom activities. All classes will stay with their cohorts during these activities. The cafeteria staff will also be serving our hot dog barbeque that day as well.

Our 4th and 5th grade awards are also an exciting event for our students. This year we are planning a video recording of the awards presentation that will be shown to all students on Wednesday, June 2nd. Students who earn awards will be given their awards in their homeroom class as they are announced. The awards videos will then be sent out via IC messenger for any parents that would like to view them.

We are hopeful that next year we will be able to return to more "normal" end of the year activities.

In closing, I would like to share a part of a recent letter from Mrs. Fulk, our Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. I think she summed up this year perfectly.

Our students and families have been resilient in the face of many challenges this year, our families have been a part of something that is unique and special. This experience will be a major part of your child’s story as they reflect on their experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. As we approach the end of the school year, please encourage your child to finish strong and take time to celebrate their successes personally and academically this year.

The Pine Street Staff wish you and your family a great end to the school year and a wonderful summer vacation!

M-Step and NWEA Testing

Spring testing is in full swing. Fifth grade has completed their M-Step testing and 4th grade is halfway through. NWEA testing will take place the next two weeks with next week being the math test and the week of May 17 the reading test. Your student's teacher will be in touch to let you know the exact date their class will be testing.

Just like everyday, it is important for your child to get a good night's sleep the night before testing and eat a good breakfast the morning of the test. Free grab and go breakfast is also provided everyday for any Pine Street student that would like it.
