Class of 2021 Survey RE: Graduation Ceremony (RESPONSE NEEDED)

Graduation is a significant milestone in the lives of students, and given the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has created for all of us this past year, the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2021 may be even more important for our seniors. The three comprehensive high schools in Vista Unified are currently planning for this year’s graduation ceremonies, and it is important for us to ensure the voice of our seniors and parents drive the decision-making process.

Recently, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released this guidance for commencement ceremonies, which is contingent upon which tier our county is in at the time. The Vista Unified high schools are considering plans for two commencement ceremony structures: a drive-through or a modified in-person ceremony.

We ask that seniors and parents complete the appropriate survey by April 18th to indicate preferences for graduation this year.

Parent Involvement Opportunities through PTSA!

Want to get more involved at Mission Vista High School? Join the PTSA!

We need parents to help make Mission Vista the best it can be! We are looking for PTSA members who are interested in serving on the 2021-2022 Executive Board.

We’ve got a variety of positions open – big and small – and we meet once a month in the evenings.

PTSA Leadership positions are a great opportunity to help make decisions that enhance your child’s educational experience. It’s rewarding, it’s important, and it’s fun!

If you want to be involved or know of someone who would be an asset to our Board, please let us know. Send an email to mvhs.ptsa.volunteers@gmail.com to start the conversation.

State Testing for 11th Grade Students

Next month, all Vista Unified high schools will administer the CAASPP English and math exams to all juniors. Students who exhibit proficiency on both (or either) exams will qualify for exemption from placement tests for credit-eligible English and math courses in college. MVHS has a history of high-performance on these exams (1st in the County in English and 4th in the County for math during the last testing administration), and we hope to keep that trend going.

11th-grade students will test in their English or history class; those without an English or history class this term will be summoned to the gym to test on the designated testing dates.

Attention 11th Graders: Make Sure Your Device is Assessment Ready!

All juniors must complete state testing on a SCHOOL-ISSUED DEVICE (i.e., Chromebook); personal devices are not compatible with the required secure browser all CA schools must use for testing. Additionally, some Chromebooks in circulation are incompatible with state testing requirements. Please make every effort to exchange your device at the textbook window on campus at your earliest convenience; exchanges are available daily from 2:30-3:00pm. Please reach out to jenniferstone@vistausd.org with any questions you may have.

Waitlist Application for Incoming Students

Families interested in having their student attend MVHS next year and missed the initial application deadline can complete our waitlist application. The waitlist is available on our website, and we will make offers of admission as space becomes available. Please share with anyone in your network who is interested in having their student join the MVHS family.

Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Workshop for Students and Parents

The San Diego County Office of Education is hosting a FREE mental health and suicide prevention event next month. All students in grades 6-12, and their parents, are invited to participate in the Mind Out Loud program, which will run (virtually) from May 4-6, 3:30-5:00pm. This year has been difficult for us all, and the event will provide meaningful information, content, and strategies for coping with mental health challenges.

Please see the attached flyers for more information.
