Message from Mr. Hanzeli
Our next big transition day is upon us. On Monday, October 5, Elger Bay will have students moving into one of two important environments: Many of our K-3 students will begin attending on the AA (M/T) or BB (TH/F) schedule OR several of our students will be working with their distance learning teacher.
Fingers crossed, this will happen for our G4 and G5 students in a few weeks.
As we do this, I want you to know that the safety of every child and every adult is top of mind. In our trainings with the RNs of the district and in preparation of the transition, there really are 5 key ideas that drive our safety protocols. My guess is you know them, but let me share them with you.
1. Masks / shields
2. Social Distancing (6 feet "plus") as much and as often as possible.
3. Hand washing and frequent hand sanitizing
4. Minimizing cross cohort activity
5. Avoiding shared items
What this means for your child is learning many new routines, from how we walk in the hallways, to how we are screened on the bus, to how they get their breakfast/lunch, when they can take off their masks, and more :-) As a small sample of just one item, I wanted to share a brief video that I have made to help reinforce our bathroom (one person at a time) entry, not because it is particularly THE most important procedure, but just to give a picture of how our staff really has to look at everything as new again. People have done great work and we are feeling ready to go, but we are also hopefully humble enough to stay on alert for refining and changing methods in order to improve them over time.
Thank you for being our partners in this effort.
Sincerely,
Mr. Hanzeli
Grade by Grade Hybrid Transition Reminders
Kindergarten
K Students are in one cohort of 10 students in the regular kindergarten rooms.
On Monday, October 5th, in person kindergarten students will transition to full days from 9:00-3:30 in the hybrid model AA/BB.
Grade 1 - Grade 3
Hybrid teacher placement and AA (Monday / Tuesday) or BB (Thursday / Friday) assignments have been communicated by School Messenger.
Students in grades 1-3 who are opting for Continuous Learning are assigned a new teacher.
The technical transitions are supposed to be happening in the very early hours of Monday, but I suggest you prepare for a day or two of potential corrections.
Grade 4 - Grade 5
The hybrid students in grades 4 and 5 have been assigned a teacher have been notified of their teacher.
On Monday, October 5th, any student in grades 4 or 5 who has been assigned a new teacher will begin working with that teacher.
All students in grades 4 and 5 will continue in distance learning until October 26.
A reminder that in some cases teachers have been transferred to different responsibilities and so this may have meant a different teacher for your child. We have tried as much as possible to minimize those changes.
Grade 4 and 5 students will find out if they are scheduled to be on the AA or BB schedule via School Messenger later this week.
Students in grades 4-5 who are opting for Continuous Learning have been assigned a teacher.

- PBS students electing to attend in person in the PBS program begin full time on Thursday, October 1.
