S.T.A.R.S. - Smart, Thoughtful, and Responsible Students
Message from Mrs. Plourde
I would like to wish all of our Deibler families a happy and healthy holiday season. My wish is that all of our Deibler Dolphins are able to relax, rejuvenate and recharge during the winter break.
I am so proud of all of the students here at Deibler. 2021 was certainly a year like no other. Our Dolphins, with the support of families and staff, persevered through each and every obstacle that came their way. As a school community we have shown how resilient we are and Deibler is stronger than ever!! Proving once again, that "together is the BEST place to be"!!! I am looking forward to 2022 and all of the exciting learning opportunities that lie ahead for our students.
As always, thank you for all of your continued support!
Casi Plourde, Principal

Court Documents
Please make sure that the school has a copy of any court documents regarding child custody and related matters. We must assume that both parents have equal access to their children, and by law we must release students to either parent unless we have court papers that state otherwise. Thank you!
Dressing for the Weather
Please make sure that your child comes to school dressed to match current weather conditions. Our nurse is unable to provide jackets or sweatshirts to those who have forgotten them. Unless temperatures are in the teens, it is raining steadily, or there is a severe wind-chill factor, students do go out for recess to get some fresh air, take a break, and run off energy. Also, please understand that we cannot accommodate requests for students to stay in the classroom during recess. Classroom teachers supervise recess on a rotating basis, so the teacher may have recess duty on that particular day. If the teacher doesn’t have duty, there is no guarantee that he/she will be in the classroom during recess, since that time is often reserved for returning phone calls, making photocopies, or attending scheduled meetings. If you are concerned about limiting your child’s activity level, please remind him/her that he/she can still enjoy outside recess by sitting at a picnic table or on a swing, or by walking around and socializing with friends.
Counselor's Corner - Sondi Alderfer, M.A., School Counselor
“It’s only one day!” Why is attendance all that important?
Studies show that school attendance is linked to school achievement. Learning builds day by day. And if your child is not in school, he/she can’t learn. It’s that simple.
Empty seats in a classroom indicate that students are missing out on learning – and teachers are missing out on teaching those students! When they return, students have to work harder to catch up, and teachers may have to disrupt current lessons to help them. Some students get overwhelmed and give up.
Disregarding school attendance policies in elementary school can lead to problems later on. One research study reports that sixth graders who miss just one day of school a week have a 75% chance of never graduating!
So make every effort to get your child to school on time every day.
- Tell your child you are excited about what he/she is learning.
- Expect your child will go to school every day unless sick – really sick, not pretend sick.
- Try not to interrupt the school day. Schedule doctor’s appointments and vacations during non-school times.
- Help your child get enough rest in order to be fresh for school the next day.
REMEMBER: Good habits begin early. And the most important school habit is regular attendance!

Nurse's Notes
TIPS FOR PREPARING YOUR CHILD FOR SCHOOL
KEEP HOME: Any signs of illness keep your child home. If you need to give them medication to make them feel better that is not a routine daily medication please keep them home. Otherwise they will be sent home and a medical clearance to return to school will be required.
CHAPSTICK: Many students have chapped lips during the winter months.
LIFESAVERS: Soothe a dry, irritated throat during the winter months. This is a common concern of students to the health office.
WARM CLOTHING: Appropriate outerwear should be worn as students go out for recess everyday unless there is a wind chill factor less than 20 degrees. Students must be prepared for the winter weather in Pennsylvania.
CHANGE OF CLOTHES: Just a reminder that you may want to consider keeping a change of clothes (or just an extra pair of pants/underwear) in your child’s backpack for the occasional time he/she may have an “accident” or slip in the mud or snow.
A few more things from the nurse:
PHYSICAL & DENTAL EXAMS: Letters have gone out for those students who are in need of a physical or a dental. If you have not done so already, please let us know your plans to complete this state mandate.
STATE MANDATED SCREENINGS: In the new year we are hoping to initiate the school wide vision and growth screenings. If you currently have any vision concerns for your child please reach out to the nurse and we can determine whether your child needs to see an eye doctor.
