Summer 2021
Safety Tips
In the meantime, we've compiled a list of safety tips for homeowners:
1. Ring style doorbells are highly encouraged for individual homes. CPD has informed us that the footage from individual homeowners cameras often proves extremely helpful in solving cases.
2. Exterior Lighting: Leaving exterior lights on overnight makes it more difficult for culprits to go unseen. Motion activated lighting is also a great option.
3. When possible, park vehicles inside your garage. If that's not possible, be sure the vehicles are locked, in a well lit area and avoid leaving valuables in the vehicles.
4. Report suspicious people, activity and/or vehicles to CPD.
Please be a Responsible Pet Owner!
Although we recognize and appreciate the efforts of most residents to follow the etiquette related to pet care, we still receive complaints that residents are not picking up after their pets and/or not keeping pets on a leash in the neighborhood. Any time on property not your own, you are required to keep your pet leashed—including common areas, sidewalks, and everywhere outside of your own yard. The same goes for picking up after your pet. Leaving behind pet waste is unsanitary, causes undesirable odors and generally leaves the neighborhood looking messy. More importantly, it is simply a courtesy to your neighbors to pick up after your pet and to keep them under your control. Dogs and cats alike are not permitted to roam at large.
Additionally, please do not leave your dog(s) outside, unattended or while you are not home. Excessive barking is considered a noxious activity and is against the Covenants & Restrictions. Please note that the City of Columbia's noise ordinance is in effect from 11 PM - 7 AM daily. We respectfully request that you pay particular attention to barking during those hours due to the ordinance and, most importantly, to be respectful of your neighbors.
Golf Carts & Speed
This concern is amplified by the speed in which many drivers travel through Thornbrook. We have a neighborhood full of children, walkers, runners, bikers, etc that could easily be the victim of reckless driving. Please be reminded (and remind the drivers in your household that are not recipients of our newsletter) that the speed limit in residential areas is 25 mph.
We want to keep Thornbrook a safe place to live for all of our community members!
Swimming Pool Updates
2. As of August 9, Columbia Pool and Spa (CPS) is the pool service provider. CPS works in tandem with our daily cleaning crew to keep the pool, pool deck and restrooms in tip top shape!
3. The Board is going to explore the addition of a sun shade over the baby pool for the upcoming season. We have had feedback about the water temperature due to the shallow water and that there generally isn't any sun protection for the babies and toddlers that utilize the pool.
Enjoy the final weeks of summer!
Sidewalk Clearance
The City requires a 7ft vertical clearance over sidewalks. Please trim all trees to a minimum of 7 ft above the sidewalks.
For those homeowners living on corner lots, please also evaluate any plantings you may have near the corner of your lot. Plantings near corners can create areas of limited visibility at intersections.
