Eagle Empire Update
January 19, 2021
Dear Eagles,
We hope you are having a smooth start to Quarter 3. The Quarter moves quickly. We hope that you continued to stay organize and reach out to your teachers. We look forward to seeing you on campus over the next couple of weeks!
Our pandemic has forced us to wondering about what we do in education and how does it support our students. With students working at home, and our school needing to be open at a limited capacity, the need to help our students see the relevancy in their classes is more essential than ever.
This week our 9th -11th grade students will have a great opportunity to take a career matchmaker assessment through our new district Xello program. We are thrilled to provide our students an opportunity to investigate careers and learn what course of study would best prepare them for those professions. We are intentionally focusing on career matchmaker prior to our 2021/22 course selection, scheduled to start Feb 1st in advisory. We hope students will keep in mind their career interests as they select their courses for next year. Down below is a video clip that was used to introduce Xello to our students. Please view the video to learn more!
Another fantastic opportunity to understand the connection between today's courses and tomorrows career path, is our District Career and Technical Education (CTE) Elective Fair. Our CTE courses are a wonderful opportunity to gain industry experience, access to internships and, possibly, community college course credit- that would transfer to 4 year universities. Granite Hills is fortunate to offer CTE courses in Digital and Media Arts, Hospitality (Culinary Arts) and Sports Medicine. While not a CTE program, our 12th grade Administration of Justice English and Social Science courses can also earn students Community college credit. Check out the flyer below for more information in joining the virtual CTE Elective Fair.
These opportunities are one small step in helping our students find relevancy in their high school courses. There is still much more work that needs to be done. Currently many of our students are struggling with the lack of a traditional high school experience. What gives me hope is knowing this generation, more than any other, is resilient. They have the ability to leverage challenge into opportunity. They use their voices to advocate for what they believe. While we never hope to see our community rallying the streets to have their voice heard, I am extremely proud of how our community has come together and organized respectfully. I appreciate the continued parent, school, student and community partnership. I do hope we move forward from these challenging times stronger.
"You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it." - Maya Angelou.

Senior Ad Info! Honor those seniors!
We need your help to make sure we Honor your Grad with the proper legal name!
We will be sending the Class of 2021 seniors' names to the print shop soon. High School diplomas are mass printed only once. We are so excited to make sure our Seniors are Honored!
Please login to Infinite Campus and verify your senior student's legal name is spelled correctly (Capital letters and lower case letters as well).
Correct Spelling-
If your senior's name is correct you don't need to do anything else.
Incorrect Spelling-
If your student's name is incorrect, you need to contact our Registrar, Mrs. Barry, and provide a legible copy of the student's birth certificate or court document with name changed if applicable. Along with the document, please provide your full name, graduates name, grade and date of birth. Fixing these errors now will help solve possible issues in the future!
Please make sure to respond with any changes before February 12th.
