Intro to FCS

Intro to FCS is an overview of all aspects Family and Consumer Sciences. Students will be introduced to a wide variety of FCS careers through guest speakers, cooperative learning, hands-on projects, and lab experiences.
Topics of study include:
- Nutrition & Food Choices
- Food Science
- Culinary Arts
- Hospitality & Events
- Interpersonal Relationships
- Early Childhood
- Personal Finance
- Housing & Interiors
- Fashion & Clothing Construction
Intro to FCS grades are based on the following percentages:
- Daily Work 10%
- Papers, Projects & Presentations 40%
- Tests 50%
Progress conferences between student and teacher and will be held throughout the semester.
Revisions & Retakes: Any student wanting to revise an assignment or retake a test should first set up a time to meet with the teacher to discuss the reason for the revision or retake and a timeline for completion.
Missing Work: Students are expected to complete all assignments. Missing assignments will be flagged as such in Infinite Campus and may be deducted up to 10%. Arrangements will be made for the work to be completed.
Classroom Rule: All members of the class are expected to help create a positive classroom environment. Behavior that creates a problem for others will be dealt with on a case by case, student by student basis.
Absences: The Were You Absent binder lists what happened in class during your absence and provides any handouts you might have missed. *All CHS policies regarding absences will be enforced in this class.
Class begins when the bell rings. Students who are not seated when the bell rings, will be counted tardy. *All CHS policies regarding tardies will be enforced in this class.
Phones & Electronics:
Phones and electronics may only be used with the teacher's permission. Inappropriate use will result in a parent email or phone call and possibly confiscation of the device.
