Principal's Corner
First, we want to thank all SLS families for making our first three eLearning Days very successful. We also want to give a few reminders going into inclement weather season:
Please remember that your family’s safety is our first priority. In the event that eLearning day assignments cannot be completed due to road conditions, power outages, no wifi, etc., please contact Mr. Moeller.
eLearning Day assignments should be completed ON the day of inclement weather. Assignments are due by 8AM the next day. Please see the community information document on our SLS website for the specific policy.
Students should be able to complete their eLearning assignments independently or with very LITTLE guidance/help. They should contact their teacher with questions about their assignments.
If you are a parent of a junior high student, please read below:
If students have at least 2 individual missing eLearning assignments, he/she will stay after school the next school day until 4:00 to finish the assignment. This is to be served regardless of any extracurricular activities, etc. Students will be expected to stay until 4:00 even if they finish the work earlier. Failure to attend the after-school session will result in a “0” for the assignments.
Points to note:
This would not be pink slip related; it’s just after school time to complete the work
For every additional 2 missing eLearning assignments after the first two, students would receive another after-school work time
One missing assignment only would equal a closed lunch.
As always, if students have legitimate issues in completing the assignments, they or their parents will need to contact Mr. Moeller, Mrs. Imel, or the teacher.
Thank you and as always, we appreciate your constant dedication to your child’s education.
Mr. Chad Moeller

A BIG Thank You from Mrs. Giesting!
I have been so blessed with so many generous gifts from so many families to purchase or obtain ALP supplies. These gifts are from ALP families and some are from friends of SLS and the SLS community! I started writing thank you notes and will try to get more out, but since some gifts are from people I do not know and some gifts are from anonymous donors, I just wanted to let everyone know that I appreciate you so very much! Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU!!
My Amazon Wishlist updates every week or two. If you want to purchase an item for our class (ranging from a couple dollars to nearly $100), go here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/dl/invite/6hcjd1Q
I also can use an Amazon or Kroger gift card to make the purchases myself (ingredients I typically buy at Kroger because they cost much less than they do on Amazon, but you may see it appear on my Amazon Wishlist.)
Again, thank you all for making ALP a fun and educational program for our kids!
God Bless You!
Mrs. Samantha Giesting
Nurse's News
With flu season upon us, please take note of the St. Louis wellness policy. If your child has had an episode of vomiting, fever, or diarrhea in the last 24 hours, please do not send them to school. They must have been free of these symptoms for 24 hours while free of medicine. Our school policy (and other surrounding schools) describe a temperature of 100.0 or higher as a fever, especially if the child has other symptoms. We will send children home if they register a fever. We will do our best to keep your child at school for minor issues, but we also want to take into account others who might have more serious complications if they should come down with an illness such as the flu or a stomach virus.
Also, Please reinforce the practice of hand washing at home to help prevent illness. St. Louis appreciates everyone’s help in keeping our kids and staff healthy! The wellness policy can be found in it’s entirety on our website. Feel free to consult as needed or call the school nurse if you have any questions. Thank you!

BAAC Annual Art Auction
Greetings,
As arts funding shrinks for schools, funding from the BAAC (formerly RAA) becomes even more important. Please help the BAAC by supporting this important community event. Funding from the arts auction supports the arts in our community and importantly, our Arts in Education program.
Thanks in advance,
Carla Austin, BAAC Publicity
Around the World And BAAC Again February 8, 2019
The Batesville Area Arts Council’s Annual Art Auction (formerly RAA) is not another sleepy fundraiser. It is an annual sell-out. Themed “Around the World and BAAC Again”, organizers are expecting the same overwhelming response for 2019.
Set at Wahill Farm on Feb. 8, the event offers casual dress, heavy hors d’oeuvres and the chance to gather as a community and dance the night away to Endless Summer Band. The BAAC’s only fundraiser will begin at 6 p.m. with the silent auction. The event’s audible live auction will feature vacations, priceless experiences, art and a myriad of fun items. The band will begin performing at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available on our website: www.baacindiana.org or at www.baac.ticket.qtego.net. They are $50 each if purchased before February 1. Sponsorships are available.
BAAC’s art auction is more than a rock concert. It is the primary way BAAC raises money for arts in our community. In 2018 alone, BAAC spent more than $40,000 on arts-related programming for students through its nationally recognized Arts In Education program. Since its start in 1988, BAAC has funneled over $1,000,000 back into our 6 local schools. Educational sessions like Indiana pottery artist Don Edwards, Playhouse in the Park, The Fourth Wall and the scientific method from the Cincinnati Arts Association all enhance education for Batesville and Oldenburg students. Funding these programs comes from the art auction. Often, the artists require travel, meals and overnight accommodations. The annual Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre and recent events like the UIndy Jazz Ensemble, Rumours Fleetwood Mac Tribute and wildly successful Indianapolis Symphony Star Spangled Symphony held at Gillespie Park were also made possible by this annual fundraiser.
