How can I Challenge My Learner at Home

We believe that learning occurs in all environments. Reading with learners daily is extremely important. Use post-its and allow learners to label various objects around your home. Allow learners to create a shopping list before going to the grocery store. Use sight words to develop simple sentences. These tips help improve students reading and writing abilities.

Benchmark Assessments

Our learners have completed the beginning of the year assessments. The assessments provide a clear measurement of where are learners academically. Learners we given assessments in writing, phoneme segmentation, beginning - middle - ending sound identification, nonsense word fluency, oral reading fluency, letter writing, and sight word recognition which cover Reading and English.

Mathematics assessments covered writing numbers from one to one hundred twenty, number recognition, counting to one hundred twenty verbally, counting by tens to one hundred twenty, adding fluency within ten, and subtraction fluency within ten.

The results of these assessments are available to view on freshgrade.

Fresh Grade

Invitations were sent out to parents to view the assessments our learners have completed over the past three weeks. All email addresses that were provided from the first meeting will be added to the website. If you do not receive an invitation or need it to be resent please send an email as soon as possible with your current address. This is a great way we can communicate about our learners progress throughout the year.

Our Week Ahead

  • Identify the main topic and retell key details of a text
  • Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories
  • Isolate and pronounce initial, medial vowel, and final sounds in single syllable words
  • Use addition and subtraction to 20
  • Project - We will begin initial research on the rainforest

Scholastic

Scholastic book orders will be placed on September 23, 2016. An order form was sent home with students this week. You can also place orders online at www.scholastic.com. Our classroom purchase code is QC87V. This code will ensure that the purchases made count towards our classroom.

100 Book Club

Our 100 book club began on Monday. Learners are encouraged to read 100 books before the end of the year. Please list each book that has been read this week in the blue folders. Learners will bring this folder to school daily. We will open our K-2 library on Monday. Learners may checkout one book per week. If books are lost or misplaced the learner must purchase the book. This will encourage our learners to be responsible and care for their library.
