Peek at the Week

Oct. 10th- Oct. 14th

Overview of the Week

Writing: This week we talked about how we can use our sight words (I, am, a & see) in sentences. Each student wrote an "I see a_______" sentence about an item they saw while we were on our nature walk. We have also been talking about stretching out the sounds of a word to help identify the letters it is made of.

Math: We worked on grouping items of a specific number, patterns and identifying shapes and colors.

Reading: The students read independently and in partner groups! 10 minutes independent and 5 minutes in partner groups each day. We are working on building up our stamina. We also, as readers, discovered how the cover, title, and pages of a book all go together.

Science: We continued to talk about the signs of autumn and opened up our science center!

Social Studies: The students learned about the past, present and future. We had great conversation about how Dakota Village was a place people lived in in the past. We also discussed how things have changed over the years.

Word Work: Sight word: see

Other: This week is fire safety week! Two of our local fireman made a visit to WestWood on Wednesday in their fire truck. They talked to the students about the procedure to take if they are ever in a fire. The students also got to walk through the fire truck.
