Miller Elementary
September 2, 2020
From the Principal
Dear Miller Families,
Thank you all so much for a successful start to the school year. I know there have been a number of kinks in the various online platforms and we appreciate your patience as the district gets a handle on them. I’ve been booted from trainings, classroom zoom meetings and various other district online tools. Know that we are aware and will not be penalizing children when this happens- this week or any week. We must all remain patient when these occur as they are something out of our control. I would recommend that you communicate with your child’s teacher if you get kicked out of a meeting or platform so that they are aware of the situation. Sometimes it is district wide and sometimes it is confined to an area of the city. The main point is to at least stay in touch with them. We want success and want your child to be as present and active as possible but if the adults are having difficulties too then we just need to work together. Once there is more of a routine and rhythm to the day there will be greater opportunities for reconnecting online.
Kindly,
Gina Camacho McGrath

Miller Office Hours
The office will be open every Tuesday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm for walk ins. This is the time to complete enrollment and for new student chromebook pick up. The office staff will be working remotely the other days of the week. If you need help or have questions outside of these hours please email millelm@sandi.net. Your email will be responded to as soon as possible.
PowerSchool Parent Portal Information
Every year when school starts, we normally send home a new enrollment card for you to update with any new information that has changed. This year is going to be a little different, but we will be able to save paper. 😊 You teachers will be sending home your Parent Portal password sometime next week. With this information you will be able to log in and make any changes. This will be your chance to update phone number, email address and any other information that will make it easier to contact you. You will also have access to other information regarding your student. Please complete this as soon as you receive your information from your teacher.

Zoom Issues?
Make sure students are signed into sandiegounified.zoom.us
If students are having problems joining a Zoom meeting that has been set up for authenticated users, have them follow these steps.
Technology Resources for Families
During Online Learning, we will continue to work to get educational devices and connectivity options into the hands of students and families to ensure teaching and learning can continue anytime, anywhere, to support teaching and learning to the greatest extent possible. While schools are temporarily closed, the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) will make available Chromebook laptop devices to students in grades TK-12 who may not otherwise have access to a computer at home.
Need a Device?
For students needing a device for the 2020-21 school year, your school of enrollment will provide instructions so you may plan for a pick up.
If your student already has a device that is not working or is broken, please DO NOT return it to your school. Instead, contact the Online Learning Support Line at 619-732-1400. The support technician will provide directions for exchanging your student device if it can’t be fixed during the call.
Need Help Connecting to the Internet?
Please contact the SDUSD Family Support Line at (619) 260-2460 to learn about the multiple internet service options available.
Dedicated agents are standing by ready to assist. Bilingual-Spanish assistance is available.

Laptop Care and Use at Home
We always recommend that students:
§ Charge the laptop fully each night - it may also be used while plugged in
§ Use the laptop in a common area of the house - avoid using outside
§ Use the laptop on a desk or table - avoid using or leaving it on floors
§ Keep the laptop away from food, liquid, and pets
