We are Thankful!

At this time of Thanksgiving we, the Oakdale Staff, want you to know how thankful we are for you, our Oakdale families. Our Tigers are all learning and growing and the support you give both them and us is so appreciated. Please know your partnership with us does make a difference in your child’s success. We hope you all have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

In gratefulness,

Veterans Day Celebration

Please join us in honoring our Oakdale Community Veterans this Veterans Day with a reverse Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday, November 11th from 10:30-10:55 a.m! Please invite your family members, neighbors, and friends who are past and current service men and women of all branches of our Armed Services to join us on this special day. Our students and staff will be lining the Oakdale drop off and pick up lane to welcome our honorees as they drive through our cue.

On this day all members of the Oakdale Community of Learners will be wearing red, white, and blue. Please talk with your Tiger about the veterans who may be in your family or circle of friends to invite them to our special event!

* In case of inclement weather, we will send a school messenger email and text message by 9:00 am to alert families that the event will be cancelled.

Virtual STEAM Night

Thursday night was our second ever Virtual STEAM Night! All students brought home a STEAM kit after school on Thursday. On the box was a sticker that included a web address and a QR code. Follow the instructions in the box and submit a photo using the web address or QR code to be entered into a drawing for gift cards and vintage Oakdale Swag. You have until Sunday night to submit your photo. Winners will be announced on Monday. Thank you to our district office for purchasing a kit for every student at Oakdale and to Prairie STEM for supplying us with the kits. Good luck!

Our next Don & Millie's Family Restaurant Night will take place next week on Thursday, November 12th, from 5:00-9:00 pm. Grab some take out, dine in, or buzz through the drive-through for dinner that night, all while helping raise money for the Oakdale Community Club.

4th Annual Turkey Trot

Big picture
We are excited to host our 4th Annual Turkey Trot on November 20th to help stock the Westside Food Pantry. Each year, during the week before Thanksgiving Break, we ask students and families to bring items off the list above to help families during this winter season. Then, on the Friday before Thanksgiving, we hold our Turkey Trot, a modified Cross Country Race, for our students, complete with our own Turkey Mascot and hot chocolate. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions regarding visitors, we are modifying our event somewhat. However, that won't stop us from helping others and having fun doing so! Please check the flyer above and start purchasing items from the list to donate the week of November 16-20th. Thank you for your support!

Recess will be held outdoors, except when extended exposure to the elements is inadvisable or when the Principal determines it to be otherwise unsafe. Students will not have outdoor recess when either the air temperature or wind chill factor is 10 degrees fahrenheit or lower.

Lost & Found

Big picture
Is your student missing a hoodie, sweater, coat, or even snow pants? Our Lost & Found is growing. Please have your student stop by our Lost & Found rack near the cafeteria restrooms to see if any of these items are theirs. Over the winter break, we donate all leftover items to charity.

Extended Campus Learners

Westside Community Schools is offering an at-home learning option for all students, Extended Campus Learning. Up until this point, we have guaranteed extended campus learning through the end of first semester. Westside is committing to offer extended campus learning through the end of the school year.

Families will indicate if they want to participate in extended campus learning for second semester through an application process.

  • The application will be open for PK-6th grade students November 10th - December 1st and will be sent out via email to families from the district office.
  • Extended campus learning applications will be reviewed at the building level before a student is granted extended campus learning placement for second semester. Students and families may be required to attend a meeting (virtual or in person) with a building representative before placement is approved.

This application MUST be completed for any family planning to learn from home second semester, including those who are currently extended campus learners.

For students physically attending school, in-person learning for second semester will begin for all students on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Families planning on learning at school do NOT need to complete any paperwork or this application. This message pertains ONLY to families who want to learn from home second semester. Please continue reading for important changes to programming and delivery of instruction at each level.

During the first semester, we were flexible with families because it was a new model and there were some unknowns. Because we are making changes to the extended campus model that involve staffing allocations, once a family chooses a placement for the second semester, no changes will be made for the rest of the school year.
