A Message from the Principal
Greetings,
Happy New Year! We have had a great week at Maple and students seem happy to be back in the routine of school. Thanks to our wonderful parents for supporting the Professional Development Day on Monday and then a Delay Day on Wednesday. While that may have proven challenging for you, it is appreciated by teachers. Teachers spent Monday preparing plans for what promises to be a fantastic 2nd semester and finalizing grades for report cards. On Wednesday, we reflected on every student and reviewed data to adjust instruction/interventions as needed to insure student mastery of grade level standards.
I enjoyed my surprise 50th birthday celebration! What a great way to start the day. Thanks for all the cards, gifts and well wishes. My favorite part of the morning was the dancing and seeing all the 50s outfits. It really made my day! Of course, your children bring me joy each and every day. Best. Job. Ever! Stay warm and safe this weekend. Hopefully there will be enough snow to go sledding. Fingers crossed!
Sincerely,
Nikki Harrison

One of the many resources I offer is our Parent Library. If you are interested in borrowing materials on topics such as ADHD and positive racial identity development, please contact me.
Did you know that grade school children need 10-12 hours of sleep each night? Lack of adequate sleep impacts behavior, academics and overall health. You can click here to view the latest edition of 60 Seconds with Samide for more details. Here are some tips to help your child get enough shut-eye:
- Keep a regular bedtime routine and reduce distractions in bedrooms.
- Monitor screen-time.
- Consult your physician if you suspect your child’s sleeping patterns are abnormal
As always, I am here to help you and your student have a successful school year. Please let me know if I can be of service.

YMCA
The Maple and White Oak YMCA programs split when we returned to school on January 7th. There were so many students enrolled in the program that it made sense to have a program at each school again. This means the Maple before and after school YMCA program is no longer full! So, if you’re looking for a fantastic way for your child to start or end the day, you can sign up through www.indymca.org.
