Media Literacy
The Definition of Media
To me media is everything that is around us that informs us of what is going on in the world. Media is television, computer, newspaper, etc.; it is basically everything that gives us an understanding of what is occurring all around us. Media is also tools of communication that enable us to communicate faster such as twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Tumblr. The media allows us to communicate to all parts of the world in an instant. It is very helpful because not only do we have an understanding of what is going on in the world but it also allows us to keep in touch with people that are not close to us in the moment and not only through txt's or calls but now you can face time people and see the person while you talk to them.
Being media literate is to be able to find information that pertains to a certain subject of your interest. It could also be the ability to understand how the information is presented and respond to the information. It is ability because it is easier for some people to get on the computer and look for something then it is for others. I also feel that it has to be with knowing what’s factual and what’s not because you can’t believe everything that is on the internet; and being able to distinguish the difference is very important because it could potentially damage your career or another aspect in you r life. The media is a very important tool that we now enjoy and that has proven to be very helpful; it has changed we look at information and most importantly the way we look at the world.
Before T.V.
In ancient time before the T.V. people read papers to find information.
The Media
Lies!
Super Bowl Rhetorical Precis
Doritos in the Super Bowl commercial, “Time Machine”, reveal that eating or craving Doritos is making people smarter. In the humorous commercial a child tricks a grown man into thinking that his Doritos powered time travel machine works. Doritos supports their idea by illustrating that children will become more intelligent because they crave Doritos. Doritos utilizes a comical tone in order to appeal to young children and men of all ages that were watching the Super Bowl.
The High School Bible
Wednesday!
It’s Wednesday! Pink American eagle v-neck, jeans, converse and I’m out the door.
I get to school and everything is going fine, as it normally does, until I notice that Eddie isn't wearing pink.
He sits down like if nothing was wrong, we stare at him in disbelief until I cant help myself and say
“YOU CANT SIT WITH US!”
-“I forgot!” He cries.
But he knows that it doesn't matter, so he grabs his plate and speed walks down the isle with his eyes glued to the floor, coming in the opposite direction is a custodian with a trashcan. I smile because I know what’s going to happen next Karma, he hits the trashcan so hard that he falls back and next thing you know he is bathed in macaroni and cheese.
As I turn away, all I say is “He deserved it.”
Not wearing pink on Wednesdays shouldn't be allowed in any school nation wide. It goes completely against the High School Bible.
Schools need to penalize students who don’t comply with these rules, punishment as severe as expulsion or even paneling should be taken into consideration.
In a free country such as America it is just unforgivable for someone to commit such an atrocity. Americans have freedoms protected by the constitution but some things are just not morally or ethically correct. Every high school student should comply with the basic rules set by the High School Bible, at the end of the day it will make America a greater country then it already is.
Hitler the Great
As we all know Adolph Hitler was by far the greatest leader this world has seen, he sparked a revolution that lead us the Utopian society we all happily live in. Even though not everyone believed in his ideals people soon began to see him as the great leader he would become.
He was born on July 4th 1889 in the small town of Braunau, Austria; he lived in a humble home with loving parents that knew that he was going to do something great in this world.
“The very first time I laid eyes upon him I knew he was going to grow up into a great leader, and I told him that every day” –Alois Hitler (father of Hitler)
Even at his early years he excelled academically showing great leader skills and extraordinary talent when it came to give speeches; he was the senior class president at his graduation he delivered one of the most remembered speeches in history.
“ We are part of something, and one day we will see what we were brought here to do… I envision a world were everyone is equal and no matter who you are or where you come from you will never be discriminated… a world of peace, prosperity and justice to all” -Hitler at his high school graduation speech
He finished high school he joined the armed forces were he learned many skills that helped him become the great ruler of the world. After the military he began his career in politics and gained great knowledge and understanding of how to run a society.
All of his experiences, fearless and precise attitude inspired him to start his own armed forces name the peacekeepers, one year after he started the peacekeepers began a war with the other armed forces the war lasted 6 years and ended with the absolute victory of the peacekeepers.
In 1920 he took command of the political party and Austria. In 1921 he began the execution of the Snake-head plan, the plan consisted of bringing down the biggest tyrannical government at the time and by defeating the strongest the rest would just surrender.
His plan was more than successful and after 5 years he took down the most feared government and took over its political system. After 10 years of constant war the whole world was under control.
From the ashes of the war Hitler constructed the most complex government that allowed him to remain in control of the world until his death. His legacy continues and even 175 years later his flawless government is still the strongest.
He left us in complete peace and equality; we now enjoy of a world in which war doesn't exist any more and further more we are all treated equally. We have set jobs based on what we can offer to society. We are all equal there is no rich or poor we are all one and there is no envy, no crime, no discrimination, we live in complete peace with the whole world.
Adolph Hitler will be remembered until the end of time.
All equal
All powerful
All just

1984 Theme song: Born to Die -Lana del Rey
Why?
Who me?
Why?
Feet don’t fail me now
Take me to the finish line
Oh my heart it breaks every step that I take
But I’m hoping at the gates,
They’ll tell me that you’re mine
Walking through the city streets
Is it by mistake or design
I feel so alone on the Friday nights
Can you make it feel like home, if I tell you you’re mine?
It's like I told you honey
Don’t make me sad, don’t make me cry
Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough
I don’t know why
Keep making me laugh
Let’s go get high
The road is long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime
Come on take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Choose your last words, this is the last time
Cause you and I, we were born to die
Lost but now I am found
I can see but once I was blind
I was so confused as a little child
Trying to take what I could get
Scared that I couldn't find
All the answers honey
Don’t make me sad, don’t make me cry
Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough
I don’t know why
Keep making me laugh
Let's go get high
The road is long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime
Come on take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Choose your last words,
This is the last time
Cause you and I
We were born to die [3x]
Come on and take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane
Don’t make me sad, don’t make me cry
Sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough
I don’t know why
Keep making me laugh
Let's go get high
The road is long, we carry on
Try to have fun in the meantime
Come on take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girls insane...
Choose your last words,
This is the last time
Cause you and I
We were born to die
My Reasoning
For the 1984 theme song I chose the song Born to Die by Lana Del Rey. I chose it because it talks about how they have fun while they can but ultimately they will die. I think it relates a lot to the book because both Julia and Winston had fun and enjoyed the time they had together but they both knew how it was going to end. Knowing that how it going to end relates to the book because just like no one can escape death in the dystopian society of Oceania they could not escape the overwhelming power of big brother. Another way it correlates is in the part that says:
“Come on and take a walk on the wild side
Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain
You like your girl insane”
The main reason that I can relate is because that verse almost completely defines the relationship between Julia and Winston. They disobeyed and rebelled against the party, had sex and enjoyed it and what appealed to Winston about Julia was that she was rebellious not so much her youth and body but the fact that he wasn’t alone in hating big brother made Julia so much more attractive. The song both describes the relationhip between Julia and Winston but also focuses on the fact that no one can escape the power of the party.
Class Reflection
I can sincerely say that I enjoyed the class, I think that what you get out of the class depends on the teacher and you are a fun person. There is something about you like a style that makes you a person that you want to be around and I feel like that’s one of the reasons the class was enjoyable, keep doing what you’re doing because you are doing it right. I learned many things for example:
1) Social media has changes the world completely and I don’t think it is in a positive aspect, because it is making people lazier.
2) The government shouldn’t be trusted as much as we do. A little ironic cause I am going to become a Marine.
3) Question things like the truth for example; things we see or hear on the news may not be 100% true.
4) I have to stop procrastinating because it’s not good especially once you're in the “real world”. This is one of the most important things because as you know I have been a huge procrastinator.
5) Finally, to have concrete and solid stand points in my beliefs, to be more passionate about things instead of just watching things happen. This class has actually made me want to do something for like the Hispanic and gay community that I am a part of.
The main reason this class was different was because it taught us things that will actually affect us in our lifetime and not just the same boring things that will not help us later in life; it was almost like a philosophy because we questioned moral and values a lot and I really liked that because like I said its helpful for our future, not only that but it has been a very reflective class. You are one of the few teachers that I will visit when I come back from boot camp; and finally I have to thank God for Google translate because with out it I don’t think I could have passed the class.
