Bring your own blankets and lawn chairs.
Cinco de Mayo: as always there will be a multitude of celebrations around the metroplex but even though it doesn't exactly scream multiculturalism, my sons love live music and it is just so convenient location wise, that I might just head on down to Lava Cantina's Cinco de May Bash with Infinite Journey....what can I say, I'm a super huge Journey fan and I love the food at Lava! But, for those of you that are looking for a more authentic experience, check out this link for some activities in the surrounding areas: https://www.guidelive.com/things-to-do/cinco-de-mayo

Inquiring Minds Want to Know.........Where in the World is Stockton going to be Next Year?
Where will you be teaching next year?
"I will be teaching at the American International School in Cairo, Egypt."
What organization did you go through for this opportunity?
I applied through the free website, teachaway.com. It is a very easy to use website that allows you to apply for jobs all over the world. You are put in touch with placement coordinators that do pre-screening calls for the schools and from there the schools can access your profile from the website. I went to Houston to have an in person interview with one school from Kuwait. My interview for the school in Egypt was conducted through Skype!
How long is your commitment / how long will you stay there?
I signed a 2 year contract with AIS. Most schools will ask you to stay for at least a 2 year contract to allow you time to get comfortable in your new country.
Who / what will you be teaching?
I will be teaching 4th grade Language Arts. The curriculum for the entire school is taught in English. However, students are required to take an Arabic language class.
What made you decide to take this adventure with your family?
There were multiple factors that made me decide to take this adventure. The most important is that, growing up my parents always took us on adventures in our family RV. We travelled all across the country every chance we got. I wanted to do the same for my family but it's tough to make that happen on a teacher budget. I decided that this way, we can travel and I can still make an income!
