A Message from Child Nutrition
Friday, February 23, 2024
Dear Parents, Students, and Community:
Yesterday, our Nutrition Department tried a new menu idea, “Crunch for Lunch” that received both positive and negative feedback. This themed meal was based off a concept presented to our nutrition team as part of continuing education training with General Mills. There are five meal components to each lunch provided to students that are required by the USDA for the National School Lunch Program: a meat/meat alternate (including yogurt, cheese, hummus or seeds), fruit, vegetable, grain, and milk. While the meal met guidelines set forth by the program, we realize it was not a hit for every student and family. We appreciate your feedback in response to this particular menu. As a reminder, students with special dietary needs are accommodated when appropriate documentation is received, and menus are reviewed and analyzed by a registered dietitian. We appreciate our school cooks, especially this week during National Service Personnel Week, as they strive to provide students with nutritious and well-balanced meals that frequently feature new recipes. Please visit our website to review upcoming menus.
