The Journey to Self-Determination

The journey to adulthood can be daunting and overwhelming for anyone, especially for young adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). As parents, friends, professionals, and members of the community, we play a vital role in empowering our young adults to start their journey to becoming self-determined adults.

Resource of the Month-

The IRIS CENTER overall is an amazing resource but I have been looking more into Schema Math - this is a way to graphically organize math word problems. As a visual learner, I could really see how this is a helpful intervention.

Another effective strategy for helping students improve their mathematics performance is related to solving word problems. Chris Utilizes His Education and Skills to Excel in Career

Chris, diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder later in life, started working with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) as a senior in college, seeking assistance with career exploration. To help him overcome some of the difficulties he faced, Ohio College2Careers (Ohio C2C) Counselor Jennifer Cosgrove helped Chris explore college and career opportunities.

After a student posted a picture of our class on Facebook. We decided to meet for a reunion. It was amazing to see everyone and it feels like just yesterday we took that picture in the hallway at the Intermediate. Our class has always been a family and it was great to see everyone.

Mrs. Johnson is our TOP TEAM Member of May. I just want to personally thank her for all of the amazing years that she has worked with Claymont. I can say for a fact that she will be greatly missed. She is one of the BEST!! Enjoy your retirement and thank you!!!
