Moving Along with Mrs. Maddox

Dear Jaguar Families,

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We have been carefully monitoring our COVID-19 cases at St. Joseph School and, like many areas in Johnson County, the cases have dropped significantly these past few weeks. After consulting our Archdiocesan School Office, our School Advisory Board, and our faculty, the decision has been made to make masking optional at St. Joseph School in all grade levels beginning Tuesday, February 22, 2022.

In an effort to keep both students and staff healthy, we are requesting that parents continue to be conservative in keeping their children home when they show any signs of illness. We will also continue to rely on parents being transparent in reporting if their child tests positive for COVID-19 or has been a close contact of someone that tests positive for COVID-19. A close contact is defined as being unmasked and within 6 feet of a positive case for a period of 15 minutes (or longer) in a 24 hour period.

We will continue practicing the current protocol regarding both positive COVID-19 cases and close contacts to positive cases. Masks will be required of all students in any of the following situations:

  • Those testing positive for COVID-19 should isolate at home for 5 days. If they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (along with no fever for 24 hours), they may leave isolation on day 6 as long as they mask well for another 5 days.

This would include wearing a mask at school, including recess and sitting in a designated area during lunch to reduce the risk of exposing others.

  • Those with a close contact exposure to a positive case of COVID-19 (applies to unvaccinated individuals) should quarantine at home for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days when around others.

Those that are fully vaccinated (2 weeks after second COVID-19 vaccine), or who have contracted COVID-19 within the past 90 days of their most recent exposure, do not need to be quarantined if they are asymptomatic.

Please notify the school nurse for clarification on any diagnosed case of COVID-19, as well as potential testing options that might be available for those exposed to COVID-19.

Thank you again for your continued support throughout this challenging time. I am so proud of the St. Jospeh community, together we have persevered and responded to the call! May you enjoy your long weekend.

With a Grateful Heart,

Jodie Maddox
