Principal's Office

Hello, all!

Here is our Roadrunner Weekly for the week of April 8th through April 12th. I wanted to begin our newsletter this week by congratulating our 3rd and 4th/5th grade Destination Imagination teams who competed in the state finals this weekend. They didn't place this time around, but they had a great experience and lots of fun! Some pictures from the 4th/5th competition can be seen below.

Please join us this Wednesday at Old Town Pizza in Lincoln for this month's restaurant fundraiser to help fund our new play structure. Please be on the lookout for the flyer coming to you this week. You'll need that flyer when you purchase your food. Thanks so much for always supporting First St.!

Finally, continue to visit our teacher websites regularly to keep current on homework assignments, weekly projects, and events. Also, i-Ready is an important at home skill-building tool, so please encourage your child to continue using it for 45 minutes or more per subject, per week to stay sharp on their math and ELA skills.

Have a great week!

Mr. Cubias

As you all know, First St. School is an older, Title I school in need of some upgrading. The district and community have been raising money through local bonds to fund the updating of our Lincoln High School and Glen Edwards Middle School, as well as the construction of a new elementary school and high school. Needless to say, there are little to no district funds available for projects at First St. The district will be supporting us by helping with the labor to tear down the old structure and put up the new one which saves us about $7,000. As a school, we have been raising money through our PTC and other school events, but we are still short by about half. The closer we can get to the whole $25,000, the more PTC and site funds that we will have available for other student and school program needs. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated! Click here to be taken to our Donor's Choose funding page.

State Testing for 3rd-5th Graders is Coming Up!

Each year, students in grades three through eight and high school participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).

This year, your child will take the following test(s), depending on their grade level:

· Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy and mathematics in grades three through eight and grade eleven

· California Science Test (CAST) in grades five and eight and once in high school

The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments and the CAST are online tests that measure what your student knows and is able to do. The tests include many different types of questions that allow students to interact with the test questions. Results help identify gaps in knowledge or skills early on so your child can get the support needed to be successful in school.

City Waterline Distribution Rehabilitation Project

Dear Parents,

Construction of the new underground water main around the perimeter of First Street Elementary and Glen Edwards Middle School began on Wednesday March 20th, 2019 and will continue through June 2019. Traffic controls have been implemented around the work zone for the safety of residents and the workers. In an effort to maintain the safety of the community, we are requesting parents talk to their children about the ongoing construction and urge them to remain on the sidewalks at all times, and only cross the street at designated crosswalks.

Due to the nature of the work being performed, large and heavy equipment is being utilized for the construction of the new water main. Large trucks and materials are also being staged within the work area. The contractor is required to maintain an accessible pathway around the work zone, and will make every effort to protect the work area and prevent children from entering the work area. It is crucial to have parents support to ensure the children are educated and are respectful of the construction activities, so as not to endanger themselves or others. The work area is not a playground and serious injuries could result from entering the work zone without authorization.

Thank you again for your understanding and please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns. anyone have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
