8th Grade Graduation Photos & Cap and Gown Orders

Graduation photo's will take place on Thursday, January 31, 2019 during the students school day. See flyer for further information. 8th Graders will be called to the Commons throughout the morning based on the Advisory Teacher's name. 8th grader will not be changing into their PE uniform for PE on this day.

Cap and Gown orders are due on Friday, February 8, 2019. Orders can be placed directly on Revtrak or by cash or check in the main office.

Parent Teacher Conferences, Thursday, January 31

January 31st and February 1st - Early Dismissal

The students will be dismissed at Noon on both of these dates. Students who ride the bus will take the bus home at noon.

February 1st - World Read Aloud Day and Black History Month

World Read Aloud Day is a day where people all around the world read aloud together to advocate that literacy is a human right that belongs to all people.

Black History Month is an annual celebration of the culture of and achievements by African Americans and a time to recognize the central role of blacks in U.S. history

GBMS students at 11:50am on Friday, 2/1 will be listening and watching Jason Reynolds read his novel, Ghost, which was a National Book Award Finalist for Young People's Literature.

Mr. Jason Reynolds is the New York Times best-selling American author of All American Boys, the Track series, Long Way Down, For Everyone, Miles Morales-Spiderman and Ghost. He has been honored with:

  • the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award

  • the 2016 Kirkus Prize

  • the 2017 NAACP Image Award

  • the 2017 Schneider Family Book Award

  • a Newbery Honor book award

  • a Printz Honor Book award

  • the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award.

Mr. Reynolds was born in Washington, DC and raised in neighboring Oxon Hill, Maryland. He found inspiration in rap to begin writing poetry at nine years old. He focused on poetry for approximately the next two decades before he started writing novels.

Service Club's annual "Dance for a Chance"

The Service Club’s annual “Dance for a Chance” is Friday, February 8th from 6 to 8pm. Tickets are $7 and will be sold during lunch periods February 5th through 8th. Permission slips will be available starting on February 4th. See Ms. Walsh or Ms. Martinez for more information.

Recognizing Staff who Make a Difference

If you or your student would like to recognize any staff member (a teacher, a teacher assistant, social worker, librarian, front office staff, lunchroom staff, custodial staff or school administrator) please take a moment to complete this form.
