Camp Invention is returning to Grosse Pointe Public School District!
Camp Invention® is returning to Grosse Pointe Public School District!
In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), Brownell Middle School is pleased to offer the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention® program to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children work together to create solutions to real-world problems and build critical 21st-century skills while rotating through several high-energy, hands-on modules. The week begins on June 24, 2019 with Caitlin Kefgen serving as Director of the ALL-NEW 2019 program, Supercharged!
Here are how young innovators will be spending their time:
Exploring the electrifying relationship between frequency, circuitry, motors and gears through reverse-engineering and rebuilding their very own remote-controlled robot.
Unearthing hidden fossils then building ships and innovative equipment to embark on a research expedition to uncover more exciting information about their discovery.
Coding and programming robot, Bot-ANN-E, to take on duties and help turn a polluted wasteland into a fruitful farm and successful business.
Collaborating with the Innovation Force®, a team of NIHF Inventors turned action-packed superheroes, to design superhero gadgets and disguises, explore the fields of engineering and fabrication and take on the sinister villain, the Plagiarizer.
Activities give participants the opportunity to explore, discover and achieve while having fun!
Local educators facilitate program modules and enthusiastic high-school students serve as Leadership Interns, ensuring that one staff member is in place for every eight children.
Register using promo code PLAY15LISTING to save $15 (expires 5/10) OFF $270. Every registration includes a complimentary Camp Invention t-shirt. Availability is limited, so visit www.invent.org/camp or call 800-968-4332 to secure your child’s spot today!

Donations Sought for 3rd Grade
Our third grade team is seeking donations for their 3rd-grade auction In June at Poupard. Students earn fictitious currency throughout the year by completing a class job or for good behavior. Each child has a bank book and has the opportunity to bid on donated items using their earned “class currency”. In addition to it being a celebratory reward for students, it also teaches so many amazing economic principles like supply and demand, scarcity, opportunity cost, etc.
If your interested in donating to our students (any item a 3rd-grade child would like) please send with your child to deliver to Mrs. Halpin or drop off to the office.
Items that have been popular in the past include:
Candy, dollar store items, used or new books (boys love Dogman, Diary of a Wimpy Kid/graphic novels), gently used toys, fancy pens, notebooks, Super Hero "stuff", girly jewelry, stickers, slime, silly putty, squishy toys, Pokemon cards, new or used legos, inexpensive toys, used toys, games, mini footballs, basketballs, bouncy balls, stuffed animals, pretty much anything you'd sell in a garage sale! It does not need to be new. They will bid on anything!
Additionally, they love to bid on items for their family members. Candles, toys, jewelry, etc. This is really the most precious part of the auction. Watching them think of others in the process.
Thank you for your consideration!
