October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month which is an annual campaign to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. The Internet touches almost all aspects of everyone’s daily life, whether we realize it or not. National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) is designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners through events and initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity, provide them with tools and resources needed to stay safe online, and increase the resiliency of the Nation in the event of a cyber incident.

MSBSD is sending out one message each week with a tip sheet centered around an online safety topic. These tips sheets and additional resources are available at This week’s topic is What To Do If You Are A Victim Of Cybercrime and Digital Spring Cleaning.

Systems Accreditation Survey

Dear Fronteras Community,

Over the course of this school year, our school district will be engaging in a district-wide accreditation process. This means a vetted, national organization hired by the district will help us to gather information about each of our schools, provide feedback to the district, and give our stakeholders and community important information about each school’s performance. This information will be used to make decisions that continue to lead us toward ongoing growth within each of the 47 schools in our school district.

In each elementary school, we will ask staff, students (in grades three through five only), and parents to complete online surveys that will describe each person’s experiences within the school. It is very similar to the School Climate and Connectedness Survey we have all completed over the past few years; in fact, this survey will replace the SCCS.

The surveys are short and comprised of multiple-choice questions. Students in grades 3-5 will complete them during their media center time next week. Students that were identified during registration as “No Participation in Surveys” will not be asked to participate and will be given an alternate activity.

Parents are invited to participate when they stop in for conferences on Monday, October 30, and Tuesday, October 31. Parents are also able to access the survey link from our school website through November 10th. The surveys are completely confidential for all stakeholders.

If you have any questions related to our upcoming survey, please feel free to the District at 746-9200 I appreciate your willingness to help us continue to grow and learn as a community!

*Computers will be set up in Fronteras lobby during Parent/Teacher Conferences on 10/30.

A foreign exchange visitor from spain!

On October 10, the middle schoolers were treated to a talk by Dani Villejo, a foreign exchange student from near Madrid, Spain. He helped Fronteras celebrate Spanish Heritage Month by bringing some special donuts that he made like his mom in Spain makes. Dani told us about his life in Spain, his family, school life and even spoke some on European politics. He spoke in his native Spanish though he does speak English as well. The students had many questions for him and everyone enjoyed having a visitor from so far away. Dani brought some photos on disk to share as well.

Dani is a junior at Colony High School and is here on scholarship through the ASSE for this school year.
