Performance Enhancing Drugs are basically any substance taken to improve and preform better athletically. Some substances that are used as preforming-enhancing drugs are: Steroids, Lean mass builders, Painkillers, Stimulants and many more. These substances/drugs are usually banned or illegal.

There are many drugs used to enhance performance athletically, Some of these drugs are Steroids, Painkillers and Stimulants.
Anabolic Steroids
Anabolic Steroids are synthetic hormones that can help the body to produce muscle and also they will decrease the risk of muscle breakdown. Many athletes have taken steroids to improve performance in competitions. People and Athletes abuse steroids because they believe that these hormones will help them run faster, hit faster, lift bigger weights, jump higher or what they think to make them preform better then they would without using preforming-enhancing drugs. In many places it is illegal to use steroids, for example in USA it's against the law to use steroids without having a prescription.
Painkillers/Analgesic
These are drugs used to have relief of pain. There are many different painkillers which come in various shapes and sizes. All of them have one purpose though, to reduce the amount of pain or to insure that there is no pain if pain is occurring. Painkillers are actually being used for the right reasons or the wrong reasons. STIMULANTS
Stimulants are taken to enhance athletic performance by increasing focus, energy, metabolic, rate and aggression. Stimulants usually improve your mood, remove anxiety.

In 1935, the male hormone testosterone was first synthesized. During World War II, German soldiers were reportedly given testosterone to increase their performance and aggressiveness on the battlefield. This shows that these performance enhancing drugs affected the body very much.
Athletes that were football players or shot put players were the first to abuse steroids.
