A Recess Note from Nurse G, Please Read

Your child’s health and safety is very important to us at Big Creek. The CDC and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta both encourage outside recess as a part of their health promotion and increased classroom concentration. Weather permitting, each class goes outside for 30 minutes of recess daily.

If your child has a chronic condition that would prevent them from participating in their usual class routine a physician’s note will be needed. When a physician’s note is received, stating a child may not participate in outdoor activities, please be mindful that would also include Field Day or any other outdoor class activities.

The form to be completed by your physician can be found on the Big Creek Elementary Web Page. Click on School Nurse under the Student Services Tab, then on the left hand side, click Health Forms. The needed form is titled Individualized Health Care Plan. Once the form is completed by you and your child’s physician, please send it in with your student.

I appreciate you taking your time to help me be able to give great care to your child. I look forward to seeing your student continue to thrive this year. Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Nurse G

Springfree Jumps to Help Big Creek Through Partnership

Studies have shown that children today spend less time at play than ever before. But Big Creek’s Partner in Education, Springfree Trampolines, wants to make sure our students get kids back outside to have fun.

“We wanted to work with Big Creek as a Partner in Education because we wanted to get kids excited about being outside and being active,” said Marc Gibbons, Manager at Springfree Trampolines. “We want children to be safe when they are in their backyard which is why we want to make them aware of our safe trampoline option.”

The inventor of the Springfree trampoline, Dr. Keith Alexander is an engineer who wanted a safe trampoline for his children, so he set out to design one for families like his own. As an engineer he was dedicated to creating the safest option and spent 14 years designing the trampoline that exists today.

Springfree brought trampolines to school for Milestones Incentives Days last year and will again this coming May. “We loved seeing the excitement on a student’s face when it was their turn to jump and then again when they finished,” said Mr. Gibbons. Springfree also partners with Big Creek on our new STEM program to introduce the fun that can be had within the STEM fields.

Springfree’s store at The Collection offers free jumping so parents and kids can see how different a Springfree trampoline is from all other trampolines. “Everyone is welcome whether parents are ready to purchase or just looking to get some energy out on a rainy day,” said Mr. Gibbons. “We have seen many families come into the store to show their parents our trampolines that they got to use at school. The Partner in Education program helps us educate the families while supporting Big Creek Elementary.”

Mr. Gibbons says that Springfree’s priority is giving families a fun and safe activity for the backyard that they can enjoy together for years. “We love seeing Big Creek families come in ready to get a Springfree for their yard,“ he said. “The kids love having a trampoline to jump on any time they want, and as an added bonus, jumping on a trampoline has proven to increase focus that will help when it comes time for schoolwork.”

Springfree opened the first Atlanta store in 2015 just up the road from Big Creek Elementary at the Collection at Forsyth. For more information on Springfree products, please visit the store or call 678-263-3441. You may also visit www.springfreetrampoline.com.
