Student & Community Highlights

Kansas Historical Society Photography Contest

Miranda Jimenez, 9th grade College Prep scholar and student at Topeka West, won first place for 9th grade in the Kansas Historical Society Photography Contest. The contest was designed to help future generations better understand how students' experiences were different this year. Miranda won for her photograph entitled "Somber Classroom." Congratulations, Miranda!

Topeka High Swim Team

Lincoln Carter and Raphael Obenieta, students at Topeka High and 9th grade College Prep scholars, are members of the Topeka High swim team. On January 21, Raphael took 1st overall in the 100yd freestyle and 4th overall in the 100yd breaststroke. Congratulations!

Topeka West Bowling Team

On Thursday, January 21, 2021, Brenna Rutschmann , 9th grade College Prep scholar and student at Topeka West, took 5th place with a bowling score of 512 at the Topeka High Quad at Gage Bowl. Great job, Brenna!

Topeka Youth Commission Semi-Finalist

9th grade College Prep scholar and Topeka High student Destiny Shipley advanced to the semi-final stage of the Topeka Youth Commission Grant Competition! Destiny has applied for a grant to display her artwork around the Topeka community. Good luck with the next round of the competition, Destiny! We are so proud of you!

Academic Highlights

English Language Arts Spotlight: English 7

7th-grade College Prep students received their first exposure to composing a five-page comparison essay using APA format for references and in-text citations. Students read the novel Fever 1793 and conducted research on the Coronavirus to compose their essays.

Math Spotlight: Honors Geometry 9

9th grade Honors Geometry scholars used scale drawings and proportions to investigate the question: "Are Barbie and Ken Proportional?" After comparing their own measurements to Barbie and Ken's, students had to analyze their findings within a real-world context. Reminders & Upcoming Events

Last Day of Semester 1: January 29, 2021

January 29 is the last day for both Quarter 2 and Semester 1. Please encourage your children to make up any outstanding assignments in the next few days :)

Save the Date: Spring Parent Teacher Conferences

Please save the date for Parent Teacher Conferences on February 17 and 18. Parent teacher conferences will take place on Zoom. We will be sending out a survey soon so that you can mark your preferred times.
