The countdown to Christmas Break is 2.5 weeks ... the countdown to BricksCenter ends now!
Wrestling
On Wednesday, Hobart traveled to Monticello ... not the one in Virginia ... to take on Twin Lakes in the first dual meet of the season. Even though the Twin Lakes High School mascot is the Indian, it was the Brickies who were on the WARPATH all night long coming home with an impressive 70-3 victory! Winning by fall for Hobart were freshman Trevor Schammert, sophomore Connor Johnson, sophomore Tyler Turley, junior Hayden Homoky, freshman Jacob Simpson, sophomore Cameron Smith, sophomore Bobby Babcock and junior Mark Mummey!
On Saturday, St. John was the destination and a GREAT showing at the 38th Annual Harvest Classic was the goal at Lake Central. Out of the 16 teams there - including Penn, McCutcheon, Lake Central, etc - the Brickies placed 2nd OVERALL ... only losing out to Portage by 12 points!
Individual champions for Hobart were:
Freshman Ruben Padilla @ 106
Sophomore Tyler Turley @ 152
Sophomore Bobby Babcock @ 195
Runner-Up finishes for Hobart were:
Freshman Jacob Simpson @ 160
Sophomore Cameron Smith @ 182
Junior Mark Mummey @ 220
I think it's safe to say our hopes for a great season are 'pinned' to some youngsters - LOTS of underclassmen in this fine group and MAN are they going to be FUN TO WATCH!!
What a GREAT start to the 2018-2019 campaign ... can't wait to see what these guys do next!

Girls
On Tuesday, our girls took their show on the road to DeMotte to battle NCC foe Kankakee Valley. Due to some issues with the timing system, the meet took about an hour more than normal, which made for a late night ... but it made no difference to our girls - they still KRUSHED the KOUGARS (if they spell it wrong, we might as well too) by the final score of 123-62!! The Lady Brickies won EVERY RACE but the 200 IM and 500 Free ... AWESOME! In diving, it was more of the same thing we've seen this year - sophomore Alivia Ahner took 1st for the 4th consecutive meet!

The girls improved to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NCC!!
Boys
On Tuesday, in just their 2nd meet of the season, our boys were FANTASTIC down in Death Valley (aka Kankakee) ... CRUISING to a 112-67 VICTORY over the Kougars! Again, official results were hard to come by thanks to KV's timing system chaos, but our boys won EVERY EVENT with the exception of the 200 Medley Relay! The boy divers also SWEPT with a 1-2-3 finish!

Basketball
My grandpa used to say, "Michael, it's time for some dribble-dribble-dribble, shoot-shoot-shoot!" ... to this day I can still hear him say it every time I go into a nice warm gymnasium from the cold, snow-covered parking lot and smell that popcorn cooking ... mmm ... LOVE IT :)
It IS that time of year and our boys and girls have been hard at work preparing to play. This was CHALLENGE ACCEPTED week for the girls while our boys looked to BOUNCE BACK from their opening loss @ #1 Valpo.
Girls
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED for our Lady Brickie hoopsters meant they scored a 'hat-trick' playing 3 games in 5 days against 3 really tough opponents ... former DAC rival Portage on Tuesday, NCC favorite Munster on Friday and #2 ranked Crown Point on Saturday. On Tuesday, the girls played probably their BEST overall game yet against the Indians. Despite the 52-42 loss on the scoreboard, the EFFORT was TREMENDOUS as our ladies BATTLED and played TOGETHER! The score was tied at the half and we only trailed by 3 going into the final 8 minutes. A 2-minute span late in the game proved to be the difference as Portage was able to escape with the hard fought victory.
Leading the Brickies was junior Kora Neace with 12 points ... sophomore Lexi Williams added 7 points and junior Trinity Collins chipped in 6 as Hobart showed great overall balance with 9 different players contributing in the scorebook.
On Friday, it was another GREAT EFFORT by our Lady Brickies ... unfortunately, the ball just wouldn't find the bottom of the net as we were outscored in every quarter and ultimately lost 68-30. The game was SO much more competitive than the final score ... it really was mostly a matter of Munster making shots (including 8 3-pointers) and Hobart missing them (4/14 from the FT line). Senior Samantha Vode and juniors Grace Nestich and Kora Neace shared scoring honors for the Lady Brickies with 6 pts each.
On Saturday, playing their 3rd game in 5 days against undoubtedly the best team our girls have faced all year, the Brickies finally ran out of gas after 2 physically exhausting games during the week. The undefeated #2 ranked Bulldogs got everything and anything they wanted and ran away with an 86-11 win.
The girls are in the middle of the toughest 2-week stretch of their season .. playing 6 games against some of the area's very best. Our Ladies are TOUGH and they are not afraid to WORK WORK WORK - we are seeing more and more of that as the competition get's better and better ... it will be exciting to see how we take the lessons learned during this stretch and USE THEM to help us continue improving towards being the best team we can be!

Boys
BOUNCE BACK for our boys meant a road trip to Porter County Conference foe Boone Grove on Tuesday night. The Brickies and Wolves have split the last 4 years with 2 wins apiece ... "braggin' rights" were on the line in the Wolves Den!
After trailing at the half, the Brickies turned up the pressure on D-D-D-DEFENSE!
CALL IT A COMEBACK!! ... Hobart knocked down 10 3-pointers in the contest - 6 by junior Caleb Banjoff who notched a career-high 30 pts ... out-rebounded the Wolves and only turned it over 9 times in securing their 1st 'W' of the season by the score of 60-51, evening their record at 1-1. Led by Banjoff's 30 pts, Hobart also got double-figure scoring efforts from a pair of sophomores - Riley Johnston (12) and Cameron Stojancevich (11). The Bricks were led by junior Trevor Underdahl on the boards as he pulled down 6 rebounds and clogged up the middle protecting the basket from the attacking Boone Grove offense! Johnston and Stojancevich also each tallied 5 rebounds to back up Underdahl!
Junior Tyler Schultz played a complete game as he scored 5 pts, dished out 5 assists, grabbed 5 rebounds and registered 5 steals!
Our boys are back in action Tuesday playing their home-opener against the Portage Indians (middle school night)!
