Grobe's Groovin' Group News

Week of September 2-6

What a Great Way to Start

I really enjoyed getting to know your amazing children this week! We jumped right into learning new concepts this past week and they did a wonderful job! We will continue to work on being responsible with our planners and learning to plan ahead with our homework assignments. I had a few questions about the "colors" the kids are getting each night in their planners, so I wanted to take a moment to clarify! If your child receives a purple dot, they did great! If your child receives an orange dot, there were some issues during the day that had to be addressed! Please remember that each night we need you to sign that you saw their behavior for the day! We are off to a great start and I am looking forward to many more wonderful days!

Many Blessings,

Destine' Grobe

Please VOTE!

I normally do not get involved with pushing politics but in this case it is very important to our school district and your child's future here! I encourage all parents and community members to learn about the upcoming McKinney ISD Tax Ratification Election (TRE) and please exercise your right to vote. Early voting begins next Wednesday, September 4th.

Quick Facts
  • Due to state funding cuts the district currently faces a $10.7 million budget shortfall
  • McKinney ISD has cut $4.7 million to help address state funding cuts (11% of administrative and support staff, 4% of teachers)
  • TRE would raise the funds or McKinney ISD will need to cut an additional $10.7 million in staff and programs
  • Funds from the TRE would be used to avoid class size increases and maintain the current quality of student programs
Early voting begins Sept. 4
Election date is Sept. 21

1 Novel a Month!

In the 4th grade, we are requiring each student to read one novel (chapter book) every month. We are officially beginning this in September! Your child will have small amounts of time each week to read during school but the majority of the reading will need to take place at home! At the end of the month, each kiddo will give a presentation about their chosen book. I will be sending an email with the book presentation guidelines soon! But in the meantime, have your child reading their novel!

"Grobe's Giving Group" Serving Our Community

Our mission, at McGowen, this year is to focus on the positive character traits each individual should display! Each month we will focus on a certain character trait and help our students understand what it means to possess and own that trait as part of who they are! I would like to take this one step further and incorporate community service opportunities for my students. Kids have the power to make a huge difference in the world around us and I think my students can start a movement that will span further than just McGowen! Please join in my efforts each month to serve our city and display those character traits we are focusing on. You will be receiving an email with full details about our attempt at making some positive changes in our community!
