Terra Linda Tiger Tale
October 22, 2020
Principal's Message
Dear Terra Linda Families,
Thank you for everything you are doing right now to support your children at home. We are thankful to have you as our partners!
Did you know we send out text messages each Tuesday and Thursday morning with reminders about what is available for pick-up during Grab & Go? If you aren't receiving the text messages and would like to be included, follow these steps:
- Using your cell phone, subscribe or opt-in to receive SMS by texting the word “YES” to 67587. Your current mobile number must be on file in your child’s school records.
- Once the mobile number has been successfully subscribed, a confirmation message will be delivered to your cell phone.
- You can modify your communication preferences within the SchoolMessenger mobile app or online at go.schoolmessenger.com.
- If at any time you opt out of any messages from Terra Linda or the District, you will no longer receive any text messages at all.
We are providing an opportunity for students to participate in the voting process by helping us name our Tiger - see details below. You might also talk as a family how this is similar to what adults get to do in our country every year. Help your student cast their vote for our tiger's name. Then bring them along with you when you drop off your ballot at any of the local drop boxes or have them walk with you when you take your ballot to the mailbox.
Finally, you received an email this week asking you to fill out a survey. My hope is that every Terra Linda family fills out the survey for each of their children. Though the results are anonymous, I would like to see 310 results - one for each of our students. This means that if you have three children in Beaverton schools, please submit the survey three times. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. Your input is important.
Here is a link to the survey: Community Survey about Limited In-Person Instruction or Hybrid Model
With appreciation,
Christy

Student Study Corner (Repeat)
A Study Corner is your child’s very own space dedicated for learning. It has many benefits! The Study Corner system supports children with the organization of materials and important information. It limits distractions during distance learning and improves focus. It gives your child their own personalized space for engaging in distance learning and sets your child up for a successful year. And it can also be easily folded away at the end of the learning time each day to save space and clutter.
We have included an image of what a Study Corner might look like. Terra Linda is supplying the basic materials needed to create this system, which includes:
- trifold board
- binder clips
- hook to hang headphones
- sheet protectors to display items such as daily schedule, Zones of Regulation, or other student-selected items
There are many ways for your child to set up and use the Study Corner. The Visual schedule and Zones of Regulation Templates can also be a great tool to provide supports and structure too. Please involve your child, even let him/her take the lead, be creative and have fun!
Please fill out the information in the form request below and you will be notified when your supplies are ready for pick up. If you would like to request a study corner kit for multiple children, please submit one form for each child.

TAG Nomination Process (Repeat) - Forms Due Friday, November 13
Every year students are considered for Talented and Gifted services in the Beaverton School District. These services are provided by your child's classroom teacher(s). Oregon law and District policy define gifted students as those who score at or above the 97th percentile on a standardized, nationally normed test of mental ability and/or academic achievement in reading and/or math. Behavioral, learning, and/or performance information is also considered before a student is identified for TAG services.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and our current reality of Comprehensive Distance Learning, our evaluation process will look different this year. We will administer in-person TAG testing after January 11, 2021. Until then, teachers will collect evidence on how your student responds to differentiation within their distance learning classroom. This evaluation may include: file reviews, teacher and student observations, a collection of work samples, and/or individual or group assessments. This process may take some time, but every effort will be made to complete the evaluation in a timely manner. Parents will be notified of their school’s in-person testing dates in January.
If you think your child might qualify for TAG services, you may wish to complete the Parent Information Form that is available in our school’s office or linked below. Completing this form gives our school TAG Committee more information about your child, but it is not required. All qualified students will be considered regardless of the form’s completion.
Please complete and return the Parent Information Form to our office at Terra Linda by Friday, November 13. You can drop it off during any of our Grab & Go events, you can send it by mail, or you can send it as an attachment in an email to elizabeth_sarles@beaverton.k12.or.us
