Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 12th March 2021
Self Efficacy - Don't Stop Believing
Self Efficacy and self belief
This week in school, as part of our well-being work, we have been thinking about self-efficacy. We have explored with the children how we might be feeling during the current pandemic. We agreed that it is important for us all to feel that what we do matters and that our actions can make a difference. Self-efficacy is about the belief that we have strengths that we can draw on when we might be finding life hard, to help us cope with situations and manage our emotional wellbeing.
Our work has included children sharing their ideas about their strengths (see video above), recognising individual strengths and strengths in others and exploring how we can support one another when times are rough.
The children responded in a really positive, caring way and they have been very reflective when talking about their emotions. Next week we will be promoting hope as part of our wellbeing work.
If you would like to learn more about wellbeing and children's mental health, information and support is available via the link below from Place2be.
Exploring Worries in Year 1
In Year 1 we began our week by designing a picture of ourselves and writing about something that makes us happy in school. We then thought about why it is important to share your worries. We read 'Ruby’s Worry' and discussed any worries the children had about being back in school. In our Wednesday class worship, we shared ideas of why it is important that you believe in yourself and the children each thought of a strength they have, to create a class paper chain.
School Update
Dear Parents and Carers
It has been a really good week in school. The children have been absolutely fantastic at working with their teachers and also supporting one another over the last week. Our attendance for this week is 99% which is great and we are very grateful for the way that parents and carers have been so supportive at this transitional time.
To help us further, please can we ask that parents and carers are as punctual as possible for picking up and dropping off. Times are staggered to enable us to transition children into school and avoid bubbles using corridors and shared spaces at the same time.
Parent Consultations
Feedback for booking Year 3 and Year 5 consultations has been very positive and our new system seems to be working well. Next week we will be communicating with parents in Nursery, Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6 so that they can book appointments for parent consultations that will be taking place on Wednesday 14th April and Thursday 15th April.
LFD Testing
Around 1 in 3 people with coronavirus do not have symptoms but can still pass it on to others. Regular testing of people without symptoms is therefore important to ensure each Covid-19 case is found as quickly and easily as possible. Staff in school access LFD tests for Covid-19 and anyone who lives with primary aged children can also access these tests (please note that primary aged children are not being tested at this time). Information about these tests can be accessed by clicking on the button below.
Thank you for your continued support
We look forward to seeing you next week
Kind regards
Steven Holmes

Exploring Shape in Year 2
A Chilly Return for Reception
It has been wonderful to have the usual buzz of excited chatter back in the classroom this week and to see the children so happy to be back with one another. We are so proud of the remarkable resilience that they have shown. Well done, Reception!
It has, however, been a rather chilly return to school. The children were keen to find out where the coldest place on planet Earth is, so our learning journey has taken us on a quick trip to Antarctica! What fun we have had exploring on Google Earth and learning about the animals that live there and how they are able to survive in such cold temperatures. Did you know that an Emperor Penguin is taller than even the tallest child in Reception? We don’t think we would like to meet one!

Nursery Applications
Oscar's Childcare
Booking is now open for wraparound care up until the Easter holidays. Breakfast club runs from 8am and costs £4 including breakfast. For now, the after school club will finish at 5pm at a cost of £8, including a snack and sibling discount if applicable. Please be aware that children will be in key stage groups at Oscar's (Nursery to Year 2 and Years 3 to 6). Assuming everything returns to something a bit more like normal after all children return to school, we will look at the club finishing at 5.45pm again for the summer term.
Easter Holiday Club
We are delighted to be able to offer an Easter holiday club this year. The dates we will be open are: Tuesday 30th March to Thursday 1st April (9am to 5pm). To maintain a safe, social bubble, we have decided not to have different children making up the limit on consecutive days. There is a charge of £50 for all three days with no option to book just one day at £20 as this would reduce our potential maximum number. Therefore, you only need to book (and pay for at £50) Tuesday and your child will also be automatically booked in for Wednesday and Thursday. We think this offers great value for money as usually three days costs £60.
The link below takes you to the Oscar's booking site.
