Meet Suarlin Alvarado
Hi there, I am Suarlin Alexis Alvarado Amira. I currently live with my mom and a brother and a sister in our town; San Martin Jilotepeque. My father works far away from us. We usually see him on the weekends when he gets home. My poor parents have had very hard economical problems. We just moved to a place where my parents are building our new house. My mom works making tortillas in the marketplace, but she doesn't earn enough to pay for my school. Most of our free time we all help to do chores with my mom. I really want to become an accountant and I am working very hard to get good grades and be a successful student. I just want to be able to help my parents and siblings in the future.

Social Studies
This week we studied the Louisiana Purchase with podcasts, sketch-noting and vocabulary activities as well as began Oral Defense grading. Students are required to complete all note-taking assignments before being assessed (these can be found in Google Classroom, at the top of the Objective Sheet #7).

ELA
Next week in ELA, we are having an assessment on using context clues on grade level text. Students can practice using context clues by going to the Quizlet https://quizlet.com/267206644/context-clues-flash-cards/ There are also activities posted in Google classroom for students to practice.
Supporting standard that is being assessed is students are able to use context clues to figure out unknown words in grade level passages.
Students will also be reading a short story and comparing it to the live version. The reading of the short story and discussion will take place in class, and students will be comparing and contrasting the movie version vs. the short story.
ELO: Students can compare and contrast a reading of a text to the movie version.
Students will also be reading independently throughout the week, 20 minutes per day.
Students will be reading shared text reading throughout the week focusing on comprehension of grade level text and context clues.
