Week of October 17th, 2016
Last week in science we learned more about heat energy and different sources. We did an experiment where we learned about how adding heat to corn kernels makes popcorn. In social studies, we learned about Christopher Columbus and how he discovered the 'New World'.
This week's homework is to continue working on increasing our number awareness. Homework is varied per each students' needs this week. Your student will either be practicing number identification or adding using a 100's chart. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to shoot me an email or give me a call.
This past week I used the app called Raz-Kids during guided reading. It is an awesome leveled reading program the has a great comprehension piece to it, plus the students really love it! Because I used this app during guided reading, they will not have a paper book to bring home. Instead, they will be bringing home books that they picked out from my classroom library. I will collect homework Friday 10/21.
On Thursday this past week (10/13) we shared our personal narratives that we created using Book Creator. Your students should have emailed them to you in a PDF file Friday. The only downside to doing this it that the PDF file does not include recordings that they added. One of the requirements of this project was to add a recording of themselves reading their personal narratives. If you would like, your student can narrate their story in real life instead. :)
Take a look at the week ahead:
- Reading-Sight word work, Phonics, and leveled Guided Reading
- Manipulating a 100's chart, problem-solving and goal work.
We are going to be working on what goes into a great sentence and how we can edit our work to make it stronger. We will be taking what we have learned about editing and creating stories in order to create another book.
