The Curriculum Corner: Read it Again Please!

In this article from the CLI (Children's Literacy Initiative) blog, Sara Lazrow reminds us of the import role that rereading routines can plan in our classrooms. As she plainly states, when we provide opportunities for students to reread texts their "responses to questions grow in variety and complexity...they are able to make more associations, judgements and elaborative comments." In short, this is were we can really start to dig deep with our students! Although, Lazrow has chosen to make read alouds her focus of this article consider how rereading can impact our guided reading instruction & close reading routines as well! Click here to read the article & don't forget to share ways you engage students in rereading routines throughout the day via email, social media or in the footer of the Buzz. Thank you for a fantastic week and have a great weekend!

News & Notes

  • Dunk Tank UPDATE: In order to make the timing work with this on field day we needed to tweak what we're going to do. We will do the dunk tank just prior to the "fire hose." Please pick your top reader & send their name to Carol by next Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, I will announce their names and these students will get to throw. If you have any questions, just let me know!
  • Rehearsal for the 3rd Grade Talent Show will take place on Friday, June 10th in the cafeteria at 9:30 AM. Stay tuned for details!
