Week At a Glance
This week we will continue showing numbers in a variety of ways. We will also be comparing numbers using the words greater than >, less than <, and equal to =. It is very important for your child to know the symbols that correspond. At home you can help by having your child guess your number.
Example with the mystery number being 19:
Parent: My number is greater than 0, but less than 25.
Child: Is your number 15?
Parent:My number is greater than 15, but less than 25.
Child: Is your number 22?
Parent: My number is greater than 15, but less than 22 and so on until your child is able to guess your number.
You can also give clues about the numbers being odd or even, the sum of digits, etc.
Reading
This week we will be discussing how good readers make connections as they read. Students will practice connecting text to their personal lives, text that they have already read, and events in the real world. As your child reads for their reading log, ask them if anything in the text reminds them of anything that they have experienced or anything that they have read about before.
Writing
This week we will be wrapping up our discussion on the six traits of writing. Our words for this week will be: city, clock*, could, crash*, black* with a focus on the hard c/soft c sounds. Please be sure that your child is continuing to practice words from previous weeks as they can also be tested on them as well as word families. You can find a link to previously tested words here.
Science/Social Studies
This week we will be finishing our motion unit with a focus on the effects of friction. We will also be exploring Habit 3: Put First Things First.
