MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
It is hard to believe there are only two more weeks left of this school year! May is always an action packed month at Fairview and this year has been no exception. Special thanks to the PTO for bringing John Collins, the Paper Airplane Guy, to Fairview this week for a special assembly. Students learned all about the science of making paper airplanes and loved having the chance to make one of their own. Looking ahead, we are excited to gather together this evening for the Fun Fair from 4:00-7:00 pm. If the weather does not cooperate, we will move the event indoors. Next Wednesday is our annual Field Day. It looks like it will be a nice day. Please be sure to have your child wear sunscreen and gym shoes and bring a water bottle. Next week, I will share more information about our annual 5th grade clap out, returning chromebooks for the summer, and the final days of the school year. For this week, please take some time to read below for updates regarding the weeks ahead and take a moment to watch this week’s edition of the FES news at this link. Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal
Special Thanks: I wanted to send out a special thank you to this year’s PTO leadership board consisting of co-presidents Nicole Dufkis and Jacki Kochanski, co-vice presidents Audrey Canavino and Carrie Krupa, Secretary Carolyn Schneider, and Treasurer Dianne Malara. This group has displayed outstanding leadership at our meetings and in organizing various events throughout the school year. We are so fortunate that they have been working both behind the scenes and at at our many PTO functions. Their impact has made a significant positive impact on our students and school!
Field Day: We are looking forward to a fun-filled Field Day coming up on Wednesday, May 24th. We are still looking for 7 volunteers to help in the morning and 3 to help in the afternoon. If you are able to help out, please email Mrs. Kennedy at dkennedy@d57.org. We appreciate all of you who have already volunteered to help! To best prepare your child for Field Day please make sure they wear gym shoes, apply sun screen, and bring a water bottle with their name on it.
Falcons Read in May: Falcons Read has been a year long initiative to help increase student motivation and interest in reading. For May, we will wrap up Falcons Read with a “Reading Under the Sun” experience. Students and staff will take time on Tuesday, May 30th to head outside and read as a whole school in celebration of all the hard work that was shown this year in reading. Students are welcome to bring a beach towel to sit on if they’d like, but that is not required. Click here for more information about this fun opportunity!
Next School Year: As we prepare to make class assignments for all students, please contact the front office or email me directly if you know that your child(ren) will not be attending Fairview next school year. The sooner we have this information, the better we can plan for our returning students, so we appreciate you letting us know in the front office as soon as possible.
Please contact Julie Manis (jmanis@d57.org) or Cindy Buell (cbuell@d57.org) if you need assistance with language translation of any of the flyers that appear in the newsletter.
ARE YOU MOVING? HAVE YOU MOVED?
Also, if you have moved during this current school year, but are still within District 57's boundaries, please contact the front office with your new address.
