John Tuck Elementary
April 2021-2022 Newsletter
Dear John Tuck Community,
The Spring is always a bustling and exciting time of year for students and families. The many afternoon and weekend activities can make it feel like we are riding a bullet train and make us wonder if we will be able to hold on through the end of the school year. Rest assured, our team is laser focused on engaging students in their learning and providing a fun end to the school year. We have seen a lot of growth from students over the past several weeks and April/May is a tremendous time for student growth as they begin “putting it all together” in relation to their academic, social and emotional skills. This year is no exception as students and staff are working hard to build their learning toolkits and expand upon the many new skills and concepts they have been learning. Your support in ensuring your child is well rested, eating healthy and encouraging a growth mindset is essential to them being successful at school. We look forward to working closely together to close out the school year on a positive note as a school family.
Urgent Message: Attendance is Important! I really want to ask all families to reflect on your child’s attendance and please prioritize them being at school every day barring illness or emergency. Research shows students who attend school at least 90% of the time and are reading at grade level by 3rd grade are TWICE as likely to graduate from High School. We have many instructional strategies and interventions in place to help students grow, but we need them here every day to make progress.
Garden Club Leader Needed - If you are interested in being the leader of our Garden Club, please come see me! We have an awesome community garden and are looking for someone who is excited to help students learn about gardening! Give me a ring or come see me anytime to chat about possibilities!

Gylling’s Greetings
During April and May, students will be learning skills necessary to keep them safe when faced with an unsafe situation. We will be using the Committee for Children-Second Step Child Protection Unit. At your child’s conference, you should have received a letter with details about this curriculum. If you did not, you can access it here.
If you would like to preview the curriculum, go to Secondstep.org and log in with the activation key below for your student, based on their grade. This will give you more information about what the students will be learning in the Child Protection Unit.
