Music with Mrs. West
Hello! We have been very busy in the music room lately. Upper grades have started a unit called "Mallet Madness". They have been exploring our classroom xylophone family as well as a few drums in a rotation. Lower grades have been singing and playing musical games. A favorite this week has been a game called "Doggie Doggie Where's Your Bone?" There is incredible art lining the hallways of Roosevelt! I hope everyone has a great time at the Art Show next Tues May 17 at 5:15! Next year, we will resume our spring concerts at Roosevelt.
Musically,
-Mrs. West
LMC with Mr. Pinta
The Latest in the LMC
Students continue to work on their science laboratory. Third and fourth grade students have begun tying what they are doing in Minecraft to some things they have learned in the classroom.
Final Checkout was this week. Please encourage your child to return their library books to the LMC. The final day to have all books returned from home is May 23rd. Be sure to search under beds, in desks at home, go through backpacks and look through all the nooks and crannies to find those books and avoid a fine. Missing books will need to be replaced. Fines will come after the final book collection date of May 23.

Character Trait May...Reflection
A Note from Ms. Stowell
Elementary Support Teacher
The character trait in the spotlight this month is REFLECTION! Why teach children to be reflective? Being a reflective thinker means to think carefully about your own actions. Learning to be a reflective thinker can benefit students academically, emotionally, and socially. It can help them understand themselves better as a learner and student by reflecting upon their strengths and weaknesses. The trait is helpful to understand themselves emotionally and socially with peer relationships by recognizing their ability to show self control, be empathetic and kind to others as classmates and being part of the school community. Learning to be a reflective thinker gives opportunity for students to self assess their progress by applying other character traits too such as MINDFULNESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and GRIT. This process allows one to take ownership and personal responsibility for not only their daily actions but their overall education. Our Roosevelt Tigers are being introduced to activities that will help them learn practical character building life skills that will lead to making positive choices and personal success. Below you will find a few of my favorites… enjoy!
The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
Tiger, Tiger is it True? by Byron Katie
Me.. Jane by Patrick McDonnell - The story of the young Jane Goodall
This Months Lunch Menu
As food supply chain issues continue to be problematic in sticking to a menu, please note lunch options may vary day by day. We will do our best to communicate changes.

Free and Reduced Meal Application
While all LPS enrolled students will receive meals at no cost this coming school year, we encourage all families to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Application every year. This application is critical in determining the amount of funding our district receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs. Please visit the LPS website, go to the Departments tab, and find the Food Service link. Take the time to fill it out today!
