Third Grade Updates

Welcome to our weekly newsletter! February 20, 2020

Life Skill of the Week

With help from your parent(s), learn how to use the vacuum cleaner this week! Ask how you can help vacuum each room in your house correctly. It is important for you to help around the house. Your parents work very hard to give you a nice place to live. Show them how much you appreciate them by helping keep your house clean.

Math

  • We are continuing to work on fractions and review all concepts over the next week.
  • Please continue to ask your child about what we are learning in class and practice at home as much as possible.
  • The end of module 5 assessment is tentatively scheduled for 2/25. A practice packet will be sent home on 2/24.

Our Task

  • Our task is all about economics, and it is called "Business is Busted!"
  • Check out the task statement and rubric below.
  • We are learning all about goods and services, needs and wants, supply and demand, money, scarcity, spending/saving, and bartering.
  • We will also talk about how weather/natural disasters can affect businesses. Our field trip to Publix will help us better understand all of these concepts.
  • Our task will end with a fun Market Day on 3/13! More information will be coming home soon about this. Students will be earning money in class to use at Market Day.

In Other News...

***FSA:

  • A letter was sent home recently about the FSA. Our reading FSA is scheduled for April 1 and April 2. The math FSA is scheduled for May 11 and May 12. We will have 80 minute sessions each day with a small break after 40 minutes.
  • Please make sure your child has a good breakfast and comes to school on time during those days. Please remember that the FL law states that students must get a score of 2 or higher on the reading test in order to be promoted to fourth grade.

Design on Display Night:

  • On March 3 from 5:00-7:00, we will be showcasing our D-Squared projects at school. There will be a pre-show from 5:00-5:30, and then gallery walks in classrooms for students to showcase their projects.
  • We will also have formal speeches by selected students that will take place throughout the night. We hope to see you there!

Nursing Home Visit:

  • Students that chose the Nursing Home activities for their D-Squared project will be invited to join us on a visit to Angel's Senior Living at Connerton Court (21021 Betel Palm Lane, LOL 34648) on Wednesday, 2/26 from 4:00-5:00 to spend some quality time with the residents there.
  • Transportation will not be provided by the school. If your child is able to participate, please meet us there at 4:00 and stay with your child until 5:00.
  • Please let your child's teacher know if your child will be able to join us ASAP.
