Sweeny Kindergarten Celebrations
Third Quarter 2017-2018
Math Skills
Families, your kindergartners continue to amaze us with their math skills! Our goal was 80% of students scoring 80% or higher on all common math assessments. In third quarter, 84.52% of our students met or exceeded the standards. The only standard we scored below 80% was coins (62%). You can help at home by having your child sort coins and name them. Highlights--addition was 98% met/advanced and subtraction was 88%
met/advanced. We are so proud of their hard work!

Writing
Your young authors are making amazing progress in writing! Our goal is for 80% of our students to score met and advanced on the end of unit writing assessments. In third quarter, 75.56% of our students met or exceeded the standards. We are excited to share with you that 91% of students scored met/advanced for sight word spelling and 82% scored met/advanced for sentence fluency (compound sentence or multiple sentences). During fourth quarter we will review narrative writing and use a timeline format to tell a story of how we change as we grow.
Attendance
Thank you for having your kids here when they are healthy, bell to bell! Our school wide attendance goal is 96%. Kindergarten students fell a little short of that goal with 95.6%. Hopefully, the worst of flu season is over and we can get back on track and finish the school year by exceeding our attendance goal. Fourth quarter is a time of applying the skills we have been learning throughout the year. It is so important for your child to be here every day.

The Leader in Me
Today was a special Buddy Day at Sweeny. Teachers and administrators from surrounding districts came to observe and learn about The Leader in Me process. We were so excited to share what your amazing leaders are doing!
During our buddy lessons, we focused on the 7th Habit: Sharpen the Saw. It is important to find balance with our bodies, minds, hearts, and souls. We can eat healthy foods, exercise, and get plenty of sleep. We can learn in lots of ways and places, not just at school. We can find meaningful ways to help others. We can spend time with family and friends doing things we enjoy. Balance is best!
