The Hungate Echo
Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Summer Term - Issue 5
A word from Miss Mackay
What a shame all this wet weather forced us to rearrange everybody's sports day! I hope that you will all still be able to make the rearranged dates. (Look out for these below in the Dates for your Diary section).
Despite the miserable weather, the fun continued in school. Our sporting successes continued when we tied for first place with Saxton at the Dodgeball tournament we hosted. Well done to Mr Wooffindin and the Upper Key Stage Two dodgeball team. Year Five have been investigating a mystery suitcase linked to WW2 and found out what an evacuee might pack. I have seen lots of Father's Day cards being made in EYFS and KS1 with some lovely messages written inside. I spoke to some of the Year Three children this week, who told me the best things about being in Year Three. They told me they love Maths and story writing. They also love the daily mile that makes them feel fit and healthy. To find out what Year Four have been up to, scroll down to the Children's Corner section to read their input to the newsletter this week.
Year Six will be leaving us in no less than two weeks! Because of this there is a slight change to the lunch menu on Friday 28th June, when the Year Six have chosen the menu for the Leavers' Lunch. The menu will be:
Sausage in a bun, chips and baked beans, and chocolate crispie bun (swapped with salmon fillets which will now be served on Thursday 27th June).
All children are welcome to attend; any Year Six / Key Stage 2 child who does not normally have a school lunch please pay £2.30 on ParentPay by 21 June.
A big thank you to all our families that supported The Summer Disco. Events like these really support the Friends of Hungate team in fundraising so they can help us provide lots of opportunities for the children and buy resources. There was some fantastic dancing and very fancy outfits. Together we raised £330.
I hope the weather cheers up enough for everyone to enjoy the weekend. Remember that our new and improved garden opens next week. Parents are invited from 3pm. Please see the poster below.
Please help us know how we are doing by filling in the survey below. There is a competition running between the schools in the Academy to see how many responses we can get back. Please help us to improve school by filling in the short survey below.
This week's school attendance is 94.7 which is below the national average.
Congratulations to Year 4 on the highest attendance this week, with 97.99%
Are you impressed by what our staff do for your child? Let them know! Complete the form below.
There have been some confused messages circulating about the school dinner message in last week's newsletter. To clarify, the process of paying for school dinners has not changed; school dinners must be paid for in advance.
As promised last week, here is some more information about school dinners.
We recommend making a minimum payment of £11.50; this pays for five meals which can be used in one week or can be spread over several weeks if your child does not want school dinners each day.
We issue a menu which is over a three week cycle so you can choose which meals your child would like each week. Any alterations are advised on ParentPay or via newsletters.
Please complete the notes section on ParentPay to advise us on which days dinners are requested. For example ‘all week’ or, if over several weeks, ‘every Friday’ or ‘w/c 01/09 Mon, Tues, Fri, w/c 08/09 Weds, Fri’.
When you have pre-paid and your child is on a school trip, absent or goes home poorly before 10.30 am, the amount for that day’s meal will automatically be carried forward to the next day / week / half term etc. Please remember to deduct it from your next payment.
Children's Corner: Year 4
This week we have enjoyed our topic launch for Ancient Greece. We designed and made aqueducts out of Lego, poly drones and a LOT of sticky tape. In Maths, we have been learning about decimals to two decimal places. In English, we have been learning about speech punctuation by writing up well known fables.
To find out what is happening in the other classes, please see the planning documents below.
The Art Week
I wanted to let you know about The Art Week happening for primary school children in North Yorkshire this July - this is a new local holiday club that is all about encouraging young children to be creative and experimental in art, educating them on contemporary and traditional artists and providing a fun, exciting environment for them to try out new and different art skills and techniques.
This is what Art Kids told us: "Art Kids has been offering children the opportunity to explore the world of art and artists in London within primary schools for 3 years and now we want to promote this through The Art Week to primary schools all around North Yorkshire and are hoping schools like yours could pass on the word to your students and your parents."
The Art Week have sent us a poster with more information. Please see below.
Letters this week.
1) Details about a holiday club at The Methodist Church
2) Details about Premier Camps
3) Change4life document that includes lots of fun 10 minute games to play at home
