Coach Powell is Awarded the 2016 New Teacher Assistant Grant from Georgia Power
Madras PE teacher, Ms. Carirosa Powell, was recently awarded the New Teacher Assistance Grant from Georgia Power. This is the 13th year Georgia Power has given $1,000 grants for classroom supplies, materials and equipment to new teachers.
The New Teacher Assistance Grant program has helped more than 350 educators create a more positive learning environment for their students. Each year, the public Colleges of Education in Georgia nominate some of their best and brightest new teachers for the grant. Candidates have to be in the top 25 percent of their class academically and have shown high aptitude for teaching. This is an outstanding accomplishment and we would like to congratulate Ms. Powell on this prestigious honor.
Special thanks to Tony Ferguson from Georgia Power for presenting the award and for his support of Georgia educators.

Madras Career Week 2016
By Maranda Holmes, Counselor
Our Madras Eagles had a great time last week as we held our school-wide College and Career Week! West Georgia Technical College spoke to our 8th grade students about their future plans and the importance of career goals, and we were fortunate to have a wonderful variety of guest speakers in all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade homerooms, many of whom were parents and community members, discussing their respective career fields and qualifications. Our eighth graders also had the opportunity to participate in mock interviews for future jobs, internships, or scholarships. A special thanks to our presenters, parents, and community volunteers who helped make College and Career Week 2016 a tremendous success!

PTSO: Join the Team!
Alison Kelleher, PTSO President
Welcome to Madras! The purpose of our PTSO is to help improve our school by combining the efforts of parents, students, and teachers. We invite you to join PTSO to help make our school a better place to work and learn! Our fundraising efforts have benefited a variety of projects in the past including school building improvements, teacher instructional requests, equipment for the fine arts department, instructional technology purchases, and athletic programs. We ask that each family join PTSO with a $10.00 contribution. (Checks should be made payable to Madras PTSO.) We also need your volunteer time! If you are interested in assisting, please print the form below linked below, and indicate in the appropriate section. Return the form to the MMS front office or to your child's homeroom teacher. You will be contacted as the events take place. We also need members who are interested in chairing a committee during the 2016-2017 school year. If you are interested, please contact PTSO officer Alison Kelleher by email at alisonkelleher@me.com.
Thanks in advance for your support!
Box Tops for Education
My name is Stacy Hankinson and I’m thrilled to be our school’s Box Tops for Education™ Coordinator.
Clipping Box Tops is an easy way to help earn cash for our school. Each one is worth 10¢ for our school! Just look for the pink Box Tops on hundreds of products. All you have to do is clip them and send them to school.
Last school year, we earned $1,229 for our school from Box Tops and used the money for our teachers. This school year, our goal is to earn $2500. For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products, go to BTFE.com. Be sure to sign up as a member (it’s free!) so you can check out our school’s earnings details and get access to coupons and bonus offers.
The winning homeroom for the first collection period was Mr. Haselwood's class. They received free ice cream passes. Thanks to all parents who helped us collect box tops. We look forward to another big winner at the end of October!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’m here to help make our school’s Box Tops for Education™ program a huge success this year.
Thanks for your help!
