The Value of Class Pets
Students in Mrs. Wesner and Mrs. Allgire’s class are learning valuable life skills with a little help from their guinea pig friends, Sushi and Soy Sauce. The children in the classroom are entirely responsible for the the care of these animals. Class Pets can teach children important values like compassion, empathy, respect and responsibility for other living things. Sushi and Soy Sauce also enjoy being read to in the classroom and are always available for a snuggle when students are feeling stressed or sad. They enhance our learning environment and bring so much joy to our classroom.

5th Grade Black Out Poets
Feel like you’re not a poet? Well, try your hand at BLACK-OUT Poetry. Students in Ms. Jamieson’s/Mrs. Barnhart’s/Mrs. Caniglia’s language arts classes wrote poetry this week.
Yes, we know, are there 5th graders who actually enjoy writing poetry? Boy, weren’t our poets surprised at how well they could write when they used the Black-Out form. The teachers were happy to hear the students’ joy as they supported and shared with each other.
How do you create Black-Out poetry? First, take a copy of a piece of text and start putting
rectangles around chosen words. It’s best if you don’t actually read the text, just choose words,
to create complete thoughts. If you’re unhappy with your word choices, erase the rectangles,
then choose different words. Just start experimenting with any of the words in sequence to
create your poem. After you’ve found your poem, black-out the rest of the words with a color or
even a design. Tada, a poem forms right before your eyes! Similes, metaphors, and
personification jump right out of your page!

Portrait of a Buck
Each month, Buckeye Elementary students are encouraged to focus on one element from the Buckeye Local School District’s Portrait Of A Buck program. In April, students worked on Integrity by doing the right thing--even when no one is looking, keeping your word and being honest. Congratulations to Jayce Stewart for being named the BPS April Student of the Month and Logan Holes for being named the BIS April Student of the Month!
Jayce Stewart, BPS Student of the Month for April 2022
In the month of March, Buckeye Primary focused on being Critical Thinkers. When you are a critical thinker, you are good at problem solving, you like to brainstorm new ideas, and you are reflective. You may not think of 6 year old’s as critical thinkers, but they are our strongest group of critical thinkers in that they know no bounds. Our Kindergarten students don’t put limitations on their imaginations. They often have new ideas and innovative ways to solve problems. Jayce is a perfect example of this. Jayce is a 6 year old Kindergarten student who loves to play flag football. It is the one thing he is looking most forward to. He says he loves it because he is a fast runner and can outrun all the students in his class. He is looking for new ways to make himself run even faster. He says he has a great family with mom, dad, his dog, fish, and duck. His favorite color is blue and he loves Mac & Cheese. When he grows up he wants to be a Police Officer.
Being a fantastic critical thinker is just one of Jayce’s many great qualities. Jayce has such a kind heart and he always solves problems in ways that help out his peers before himself. Jayce is quick to problem solve situations independently such as sweeping up his own space and all around the classroom when he sees it is needed. He does so quietly, respectfully and with integrity because he does things without being asked. Each day he displays strong qualities of a leader and I look forward to watching him continue to help others and grow as a current and future leader."
Logan Holes, BIS Student of the Month for Aril 2022
Logan Holes is our student of the month for April because of how well he models a Portrait of a Buck for his other preschool classmates! Besides being a critical thinker, Logan has also showcased collaboration and perseverance in the classroom.
The Buckeye Preschool Program helps all the students grow academically and socially because of the staff and students like Logan. The teacher that nominated him had such kind words, and it is no surprise why he is our student of the month for April.
Logan Holes arrives each morning at Little Bucks Preschool with a smile and a positive attitude. He is a friend to all and makes sure that every preschooler in our class is included in activities. Logan encourages his peers to "Try to do their best'', he has a wonderful imagination and creates block structures in our block area that Logan and his friends use together. Logan loves small group activities where he gets to practice skills and discover new concepts. He loves to learn new things and share his knowledge with all.
Besides being a great student in the classroom, Logan is such a cool kid. He loves dinosaurs, his two favorite dinosaurs are T-Rex, and Giganotsaurus. He has a great interest in Science, and loves visiting COSI. There is no wonder why he has an amazing imagination. He is a Cleveland Browns fan and enjoys helping his two year old sister Aubrey, but she is always taking his stuff. Lastly, he has great taste because he loves chocolate sundaes and blizzards.

Mr. Craig Bailey, the former superintendent of Buckeye Local Schools, was the founder of the foundation in 2003. Mr. Bailey was the first person to have the vision of what a positive impact establishing an education foundation could be for our district. Through much hard work, commitment and perseverance, Mr. Bailey made that vision a reality at Buckeye!
We are honored to have had Mr. Craig J. Bailey serve our district with such high standards, excellence and integrity. We hope you will join us by running with our Buckeye students and families to not only raise money to support our Buckeye School district but to honor a legacy.
