Shark Report

A message from Ms. Thompson, SV Principal

Hello Shark Families,

We've had a wonderful week here at Shelton View! Thank you for participating in our curriculum nights (we looking forward to seeing our 1st grade families next Tuesday)! The connection between home and school is so important. I am hopeful that you were able to learn more about your child's classroom routines and modes of communication. Additionally, you might try checking in with your children about what they are learning and their feelings about school. Instead of asking, "How was your day?" One of the following questions may help you get a more detailed answer.

  1. What was the most interesting (or exciting) part of your day?
  2. What was the most frustrating (or boring) part of your day?
  3. Is there anything you’re especially looking forward to this week?
  4. Is there anything you’re feeling worried about this week?
  5. Who are you playing with at recess? OR: Who do you like to each lunch with?

Go Sharks!

Ms. Thompson

A Message from Ms. Kraft - School Counselor

This week we started lessons on Kelso's Choices! I am getting into each classroom every week and teaching student's ways to solve small problems they are having throughout the day! We know many problems get told to adults right away and we want to encourage independence and attempting to solve their problems first. Kindergarten is a week behind, but the younger grades are focusing on the first 3 choices (Going to another game, talking it out, and sharing and taking turns) while the older grades will be refreshed on the first 5! If your student is bringing problems to you that they could try to solve themselves first, you can use this language with them and ask "What Kelso's choices have you tried?"

It has been a joy seeing each one of your students' faces throughout the week! 🙂

Now Enrolling for Ready Start!

Northshore Early Childhood is currently enrolling for the Ready Start Tuition Program. It is a blended multi-age, inclusive model, serving students, ages 3-5. Currently there are openings at Sorenson ECC and Woodmoor Elementary for the 2022/23 school year. Classrooms are taught and supported by a general education teacher, a special education teacher, and a paraprofessional. Inclusive classrooms create a dynamic learning environment for all students. The average class size is 16 students, with class make-up of 8 students with IEP’s, 4 students who pay tuition, and 4 students who are income eligible. Classrooms utilize The Creative Curriculum & Teaching Strategies GOLD Assessment Tool. The staff is committed to fostering student learning and cultivating friendships while creating a sense of community for our students. Utilizing developmentally appropriate teaching strategies to support a whole child approach to learning, within an inclusive environment, fosters high levels of student learning and social and emotional growth for all students.

Safety Protocols

If you will be picking your students up early from school (before 3:55PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays; and before 2:25PM on Wednesdays), please be sure to bring identification. We will be checking the ID of EVERY person who comes to pick their students up early. Please have your ID out and ready to be checked by the front office when you sign your kids out!

Note: Please be sure to let the office know if someone else will be picking your child up from school. You can call 425-408-5200 or email

End of the Day Pick Up Tips!

  • If you are in the pick-up line, please have the page that contains the name and grade level of each student you will be picking up visible.
  • If your child has bus privileges, please utilize the school bus. This will keep traffic down and get everyone home faster. You can find bus information here.
  • If you are picking up your child from school and are waiting along 5th AVE W or 240th ST SE, please pull along the curb as much as possible without blocking the walk path so the buses can go by.
  • Most importantly: please reach out to your child's teacher and the office and let them know how your student(s) is going home, especially when it is different from normal practice.

22/23 COVID Protocols

Students with one or more potential COVID symptoms (fever, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, new loss of taste or smell, cough, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, sore throat, congestion, or runny nose) are required to stay home and test for COVID-19. Home antigen tests are recommended. Students with one or more symptoms need a negative COVID test AND a significant improvement in symptoms prior to returning to school. You do not need to report negative tests to the school nurse.

Please see the Department of Health’s COVID Symptom and Exposure Flowchart for Schools at the following link for more information about steps to follow for symptoms or exposures:

If you do not have COVID tests at home, please contact Nurse Sherrie, Shelton View's wonderful school nurse, at 425-408-5206 or to arrange to pick-up a test kit.

If your child has recently tested positive for COVID on ANY test (antigen or PCR), please notify Nurse Sherrie to report the positive test. Please include the date of the positive test and the date of the onset of symptoms, if present. Nurse Sherrie will respond via email with information about the duration of isolation, a return to school plan, and isolation learning support.

If your child is sick with an illness other than COVID, please make sure they do not return to school until symptoms have subsided. Students must be fever-free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication and no vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.

If you have questions, please contact Nurse Sherrie. Thank you for helping to keep Shelton View healthy and safe!

NSD Nutrition information

The Northshore School District, like all others in the state, will again begin to charge for school lunch and breakfast at the start of 2022-23 school year. The Federal COVID-19 waivers that have allowed U.S. public schools to offer free breakfasts and lunches to all students regardless of income expired at the end of the 2021-22 school year. This means students who apply for benefits and qualify for free or reduced-priced meals will continue to receive meals at no charge in 2022-23, and students who do not apply for or qualify for benefits will be charged at the paid meal price for breakfast and lunch when participating.

Milk is included with breakfast and lunch or can be purchased separately for $.50. The cost of meals is subject to change annually. Click here to see the current meal price.

Click here for monthly menus. Please note: menus are subject to change based on availability of supplies, so please check the menus weekly.

You can pay for meals by adding money to your child's account online, or by sending cash or a check (made out to Northshore School District) to your school office. Please include your child's full name and teacher with the payment or fill out a Bank A Meal envelope, which can be found in the school office.

Visitors & Volunteers on Campus

In order to volunteer in the classroom or on campus, a Volunteer Background Check will need to be filled out annually. All volunteers must be fully COVID 19 vaccinated.

Note: If your background check and vaccination information have not been submitted and approved, you will not be able to volunteer in the classrooms.

All volunteers must sign in at the office and wear a visitor sticker. Any person not wearing a visitor sticker during the school day will be directed by staff members to the office.
