Principal's Message
It is officially the Friday of spring break, and I wish I could be welcoming all Lincoln students back to class on Monday. I am, however, cognizant of how important it is to be a part of a school community that is willing to band together to be greatly inconvenienced to protect ourselves, our families, our friends, and our neighbors by practicing social distancing and sheltering-in-place as directed by government and health officials. Everyone’s efforts to follow these guidelines are vital as we do our best to help slow the spread of COVID19 in the United States.
As you can imagine, our school calendar will more than likely be changing in the weeks and months ahead, regardless of our return-to-school date. Our PTO has been in contact with me regarding their plans and commitments as the end of the year approaches. The 8th Grade Activities Committee wants parents to know that they will still collect graduation activity participation forms upon our return. We will keep families informed as quickly as possible of updated calendar information once we can regroup and set firm dates.
Dr. Aumiller will continue to keep families informed as decisions are made regarding return-to-school dates. For the time being, we are ready to implement e-Learning days beginning March 30. It is imperative that families keep themselves informed and read all communications from Dr. Aumiller carefully and completely.
It may be important to some families that I reiterate a portion of a previous letter from Dr. Aumiller concerning support: “We know time off school and work presents some families with financial challenges. We are particularly concerned about children who receive their meals from the schools. To support these families, our plan is to provide sack lunches for those families in need. Students can pick these lunches up at Lincoln Middle School, Monday through Friday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020. Students will enter through Door 1. Parents do not need to enter the building.”
It takes common sense, confidence, flexibility, thoughtfulness, and patience to get through unprecedented events like the COVID19 pandemic. The United States, the State of Illinois, the CDC and IDPH, health care, businesses, school districts, and YOUR FAMILY can only move through this event day-by-day. Your family’s health and that of your loved ones, is the most important focus during this time. Your efforts to practice frequent and thorough handwashing, social distancing, and sheltering-in-place show your concern for the well-being of ALL people, particularly those who may be more susceptible to the effects of this virus. On behalf of all Lincoln students, families, and staff, and those beyond our small community, I thank you for your commitment during this time of crisis.
Again, please do not hesitate to email me or any teachers during this time.
