Laughter that needed a cure; Workplace Hero, Teens Arrive
For over three decades, an O'ahu man suffered from laughter that he couldn't control. Some thought it was a behavioral issue. But UH clinical professor Dr. Kore Kai Liow, a neurologist, and the UH medical residents working with him diagnosed a physical cause, and helped resolve the laughter that needed a cure. Read the story on UH Med Now.

The National Conference For Immunization Coalitions and Partnerships is meeting in Honolulu this week. Tomorrow, tropical medicine Assistant Professor Axel Lehrer will speak there on vaccines for emerging infectious diseases. How appropriate then that we kick off a weekly eNews feature about our JABSOM RESEARCH. This week, meet Dr. Eleanore Chuang, a post-doctoral fellow in Dr. Lehrer's lab who has worked on Ebola and HIV and who has a passion for communicating the value of immunizations. Learn about one of our BRIGHT MINDS, Dr. Chuang.
Live Shots and Report Cover Massive Teen Camp at JABSOM
The 2019 Teen Camp was featured "LIVE" all morning long on Saturday, November 9 on KITV-4's morning news. AHEC's Joey Sumulomg rocked the live shot describing the health career opportunities and hands-on demonstrations the 6th to 12th graders were about to learn of and take part in. Nearly 200 middle and high schoolers from all over O'ahu crowded the Medical Education Building at JABSOM, and they weren't looking at their phones! They were enthralled by all the fascinating things they could hear about, see and do at Teen Camp. Our Hawaii Pacific Basin Area Health Education Center stages Teen Health Camps statewide and runs a host of other programs to help build our local health workforce. Check it out!
