Mustang Tales
April 8, 2022 Vol 2. Issue 29
Message from Principal Masone
Dear Families:
We have had such an exciting week this week at MSES. I learned all about rocks and minerals from Ms. Goldman's class and found out about the purity of such through candy bars. Talk to a fourth grader if you want to learn more!
Thank you for supporting our book fair this week. The proceeds from the fair provide books for our MSES library. Your generosity helped us replace some very worn books along with some brand new titles. Thank you!
Fifth graders displayed such deep thinking in our recent Science Fair. Fifth grade teachers guided these talented students to extend their thinking to create a question, hypothesis, independent and dependent variable and a conclusion. The projects were phenomenal and I learned about soil, hamsters, dog mazes and more. Our overall winner was Ansel Raymond who taught the principal that polyester burns slower than cotton. A special thank you to Ms. Babcock and our district staff and community members who served as judges!
Come check out our Science Fair projects on April 26, when we host the School of Excellence Night. Each grade level will display a special exhibit to share with you in the hallways. Science Fair projects will be showcased in the gym. Prospective families to MSES can tour the school from 4-5:30pm. Families are invited to join us for dinner catered by Adam's Mountain Cafe at 5:30 or 6:30pm and tour our beautiful building. Meals are $18.00 for adults and $10.00 for children. Join us for a fun-filled night by filling out this School of Excellence form.
Beginning April 11th, students will begin taking the Colorado Measures of Academic Success, CMAS. The tests takes a few days to complete for grades 3 ,4, and 5. Please help us by getting your student to school on time daily and a good night's rest sure helps!
It's Open Enrollment for our entire school district and we are currently accepting applications for all in district and out of district students. Become a Mustang here! Choice Enrollment.
If you like our school and want to leave a review for other parents, rate us at Great Schools.
If you have a concern about our school, call Ms. Sueppel or Ms. Masone. We want to hear your feedback.
Warmly,
Maria

3rd Grade: Ask Your Expert!
Third graders are wrapping up the Native Americans: Regions and Cultures unit, and time. Ask your expert: What was one of the biggest challenges faced by the tribes of the Southwest region? There was not always enough rain. When the Ancestral Pueblo abandoned their homes, they began to live in? Cliff Dwellings!!! Can they tell you about the “Hopi Way”? The “Hopi Way” means that you should be kind to each other and thoughtful towards the environment. Students should be able to describe the different regions, the dwellings they lived in and the foods these Native Americans ate. One more question, why was the Southeast region the most densely populated? There was plenty of rain, fertile soil, and a mild climate for growing lots of food! In math, we are learning about time, so let’s talk about recess. How long is first recess? (Twenty minutes) Second recess? (A quarter of an hour) Fractions and time? How many minutes are in a quarter of an hour? (15 minutes because 60 divided by 4 is 15) Wow, no wonder this is such a challenging mathematics unit. Yes, this is Ask Your Expert, but perhaps we could invite you to Investigate With Your Expert. Try this: Count your steps as you walk in place for one minute, three minutes, 5 minutes. If you can, use an analog clock as you and your expert walk and talk it out. Try this: Record the start time of an activity, such as watching a movie. Reveal the length of the activity and work with your expert to predict the end time of the activity. At the end, see if you were correct! This is a rinse and repeat-type investigation. It often takes a lot of practice to work this out. Have fun!
Mustang Moment
Mr Niebuhr has been supporting a group of 5th grade aspiring golf pros, with a few already competing against middle school teams! The pride and excitement this has given to these students has been a joy to watch, and his support for them has been above and beyond. Thank you, Mr. Niebuhr!
Yearbooks are ON THE WAY!
