Staff Spotlight
This week we are going to spotlight Mrs. Christina McLeod! Where would we be at New Prospect without Mrs. McLeod…nowhere….that’s where! Mrs. McLeod is the epitome of empathy! She is constantly learning by putting herself in another person’s shoes. She does this for our students, for our students’ families and she does this for all of us adults. She does this because she listens…she listens the most. Mrs. McLeod does a lot around here but her empathetic responsiveness is what matters. If our kids didn’t have their basic emotional needs met, they wouldn’t learn a thing. Mrs. McLeod helps us guide our students in their social-emotional needs which makes us all successful teachers. She is also a HUGE teacher fan…she not only supports our emotional needs (which yes…we have those too) but also fights for us day in and day out so that we can do this job to the best of our ability! Thank you for all you do Christina! We love you!

Read for the Record October 25
We get to take part in an exciting event on Thursday, October 25, 2018, in our district and in community centers, schools, libraries, homes, and other gathering places across the United States: Jumpstart's Read for the Record. The Humanities department has purchased books for all Kindergarten and PreK classes to be able to participate in this event. (I will deliver K and preK books when they arrive). However, all can participate! View the video of this book at this link: http://viewpure.com/9ypoL3FZ-Ds?start=0&end=0
Jumpstart’s Read for the Record raises public awareness about the importance of early childhood education programs, early literacy, and community involvement for all children, of every income level. By gathering to read the same book on the same day, we can all be part of setting a new world record in a way that engages our entire community – children, families, and civic leaders – in our schools.
The 2018 campaign book is Maybe Something Beautiful by F. Isabel Campoy and Theresa Howell and Illustrated by Rafael Lopez, is based on a true story of the Urban Art Trail in San Diego, California. Maybe Something Beautiful reveals how art can inspire transformation-and how even the smallest artists can accomplish something big. Maybe Something Beautiful will not only inspire adults to read with children but will also spur policymakers and organizations to take action towards transformative change in early education while putting books in the hands of more children across the country.
