Big picture

What is Academic Coaching? How will it help me?

Our professional academic coaches can help you
  • manage your time
  • organize your files and calendars
  • navigate Canvas
  • stay on track
  • improve your reading comprehension
  • prepare for exams
  • work in groups
  • advocate for yourself

Here's what some Champlain students have to say about Academic Coaching:

  • My academic coach is very understanding with who I am and how I learn best. She stays updated with my classes and helps me when I’m stressed out.
  • My academic coach is my lifesaver.
  • My coach is easily my strongest connection on this campus after nearly five semesters. He is somebody I can be honest and open with, and the energy in our meetings is always supportive and positive.
  • Not only does my coach help me with being successful in classes, she has also helped me build my confidence to become more independent.

Check it out by making an appointment for a virtual one-on-one meeting!

Embedded Tutor - Statistics

All Statistic classes this Fall will have an embedded tutor who will provide additional support. Some may offer study groups, exam prep, or additional tutoring hours in collaboration with their Faculty mentor.

If you're taking Stats this semester, check in with your professor about the details or reach out to Lauren at lbruneau@champlain.edu.

Do you think it would be helpful to have an embedded tutor in one of your other class? We might be able to make that happen.

24/7 Tutoring with Smarthinking

Did you know Champlain contracts with Smarthinking to provide tutoring support to CCO students, non-traditional undergrads, and our traditional students? Smarthinking offers real-time online tutoring and homework help 24 hours a day, seven days a week in over a dozen subjects. Students can choose from four options:
  • Drop In Tutoring (with whiteboards)
  • Scheduled Tutoring
  • Offline Questions
  • Submit a piece of writing for review within 48 hours

New Writing Resource!

This summer, Core professor extraordinaire, Erik Esckilsen and our amazing Associate Director, Leslie Van Wagner, created this Writing Center resource for the Champlain Community. Why should we send our Champlain students to Purdue Owl when we have the expertise to create a Champlain specific resource?

In the coming months, we hope to expand this to include other Faculty articles and student work samples.

Student Central and Student Resources

All Champlain students are enrolled in a revised and expanded version of the Canvas resource, Student Central, this fall. Embedded within your faculty advisor's Canvas shell, this course provides a one-stop shop for all your academic needs. In addition to tech resources, advising information, and information about academic resources, the SMART Space has contributed a variety of helpful infographics:

Feeding Chittenden - Service Project for EHS on Saturday, 9/12.
