HMMS Happenings!
June 22, 2022
Dear HMMS Families,
We did it! The last day of the school year! I hope this newsletter finds you well and getting ready for a well-deserved summer break!
Our school has enjoyed so many celebratory events the last two weeks, culminating with a fantastic 8th grade promotion ceremony and celebration last night!
Here are some highlights:
- Team Lightning and Team Thunder competed in their Annual 6th Grade Academic Bowl, held their Term 3 Cluster Cash Auction, and had a wonderful Luau themed social in the HMMS Courtyard!
- Team Mahalo and Team Ohana created hands-on, fun-filled games with a carnival atmosphere for their annual 7th Grade Probability Carnival. They also enjoyed cornhole, can jam and lots of summer treats at their 7th grade social in the HMMS Courtyard!
- The Eagles and The Lions had a magnificent day for their 8th grade field day on June 16th, complete with lawn games, inflatables, lunch and a visit from the ice cream truck! Students also traveled to FHS for a tour of the high school and will end their year this morning with a delicious 8th grade breakfast.
None of this would be possible without our amazing PCC and parent volunteers, and our incredible HMMS staff. It has been so wonderful to return to so many of our favorite end of year traditions and celebrations. Your commitment to ensuring a positive school year for our students is greatly, greatly appreciated!
As we head into the summer, I wanted to share some information to close out this school year and prepare for next year.
- Over the summer Mr. Healy and I will be working to build the 2022-2023 schedule and will publish student placement information in Aspen by the middle of August.
- I will send monthly summer HMMS Happenings! updates, so please be on the lookout for these as well.
- The HMMS office will be closed from June 24-July 4. We will open again on July 5th and our office hours will be 8am - 2pm.

Health Office Update: Medication
Medication Pick-Up
Parents should pick up their child’s medication from the nurse on or before the last day of school. The nurse will be available until 2:45 pm on June 22. No medication will be kept in the nurse’s office over the summer.
Medication Orders for 2022-2023
Medication order forms need to be completed by both the physician and parent for medications to be administered for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year. A school wide email will be sent by the nurse later in June to review health requirements. Medication forms are included (as an attachment) for all students. Please arrange for your child’s physician to complete these forms during the summer. They must be dated on or after July 1, 2022. Medication orders need to be renewed every school year.
Summer Reading & Math Information
- Franklin Middle School students are required to read at least two books this summer.
- Use this log to record the books you read and return to your ELA teacher in the fall.
- Students will share one of their summer reading books in the fall. This is a great way to connect with new teachers and peers!
- We recommend that students take brief notes on their favorite title to keep their memory fresh.
- Acclaimed author Leslie Connor is scheduled to visit us in October! Students are encouraged to read or listen to one of her books this summer.
- Review the attached Summer Reading Recommendation List for a list of great titles.
SUMMER MATH
This summer we are recommending that Franklin Middle School students participate in a summer math review program. For those families interested in math resources for the
summer, we are providing you a few resources.
Please refer to the letter that corresponds to the grade level your child will be entering in the fall.
For students who are entering 7th or 8th grade, IXL accounts will be accessible over the summer months. All summer math work is recommended but optional.
