Happy New Year and Welcome Back!! Here's to a brand new start. Stop into our library and check out some of our new books, highlighted below.

Create a Culture of Reading

Try to model reading for our students. Keep a sign outside your classroom door telling students what book you are currently reading. Register for READWORKS.org and have students read an article a day. The site is free and contains articles, lesson plans and text paired sets. Best of all, everything on the site is common core alligned.

Encourage Your Students to Try Their Hand at Creating a Picture Book.

There are 2 contests coming up where students can create a picture book and win $$$. Hurry, the Ezra Jack Keats competition has a deadline of January 17th. One winner from the school is chosen and the winning titles are displayed at the Grand Army Plaza branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. The Diverse Minds Writing Competition deadline is March 24, 2017. Winner receives a $5,000 scholarship.
