Student Advisory Council
We are excited to announce our 2021-2022 Student Advisory Council!
Savanah Arbanas, Malaina Baker, Katie Buckley, Sophie Kelly, Madi Martinez, Ellie Mulvihill, Garrett Varner, and Brianna Ward went through an application process where they shared their leadership qualities and experiences, challenges they have faced as leaders, their vision for SAC and BRHS, and their school spirit and involvement. They also had to have at least two teacher recommendations.
These students will be working with Mr. Hamilton to address issues and concerns at BRHS and make changes to improve our campus.
At our first meeting this past week, we created a social contract for the operation of our team. The students decided that our main areas of focus this year will be on creating an inclusive and appropriate student dress code, increasing school spirit/pride, helping students develop real-life skills, improving social interactions among students, and ways to decrease vaping on campus.
We are excited to see what these leaders come up with and how they can lead to make a positive impact at BRHS!

I hope that everyone is settling into the new school year and getting back into a routine. I have been meeting with students in their English classes throughout the month of September to talk about college preparation, transcripts, graduation plans, and dual credit opportunities. September is also the month for Senior meetings here at BRHS. It is such an amazing experience to get to talk to students about their future dreams and aspirations.
We have some exciting trips planned for our seniors this fall. On Wednesday, September 29, we will be visiting Texas A&M Commerce. On November 17, we will be touring the University of North Texas in Denton. It's a great time to explore options for after graduation.
As a reminder, seniors are now required to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) a Texas Application for Student Financial Aid (TASFA), or sign the opt out form with Mrs. Ingersoll, as part of a new senate bill requirement this year.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be open on October 1. Students who plan to attend college for the 2022-2023 school year will need their parents' 2020 income tax information in order to complete the process. To begin the FAFSA process, go to www.studentaid.gov. For more in depth information, make plans to join us and Texas A&M Commerce on Wednesday, October 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the BRHS Cafeteria for a Financial Aid 101 Information Night. We will have a quick overview of the process and financial aid advisors will be on hand to help families complete their FAFSAs in our computer lab. If you cannot join us in October, we will have an additional FAFSA night on November 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. We hope to see you there!
You may also use the attached handouts to help begin the process with your student.
Students who signed up to take the PSAT will have a mandatory meeting on September 30 during lunch in the library. The PSAT test will be October 13.
BRHS will host the SAT School Day for seniors on October 28. Watch your student email account for details.
Fall is my favorite time of year- cooler weather, holidays, and getting the school year into full gear. I hope yours is enjoyable as well.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am always happy to help any way I can.
